overwhelmed - shut down

Do you ever feel like you are so overwhelmed by the demands of others, or what is on your 'to do' list, homework, things to do around the house, things you've been procrastinating to do, calls to make but afraid to pick up the phone, cleaning, stuff at work, and then to top it off, people want to talk to you...

then all of a sudden all this 'stuff' is floating around in your head and you feel like you are about to mentally shut down..

I have homework I am trying to get done (doing better with it by the way)
I have errands I need to take care of
I need to call my grandma and make a couple other calls
I have laundry to do
I have a huge pile of papers I need to go through because my 'OCD' side is wanting things neat and clean
My friend in NY wants to skype
I have to pick up my boxes from someone's house and put in storage - under deadline there because their house is in foreclosure and they have to move
I have to stop by planned parenthood and get my b/c (hoping that it'll kick in and get my monthly hormones in check)
Make dr. appt. to do something about meds.
Burn DVDs for nephew (I promised him I would) which is a 2 hour job for each DVD...oh, anyone know how to cut the time on that, by the way??
do research paper for school, type/print it up

and then it hits me....

I feel like just shutting down....power-down.

It may not seem like much, but you know how a person's mind can blow things up to grandiose proportions

And to top it off my SIL comes into my bedroom and asks if I can watch the kids while she takes a 'quick shower'....of course, being the passive person that I am, I say yes. By the way, her 'quick shower' is no less than 20-25 minutes. My average shower is less than 10 minutes, 6-7 minutes with the kids.

I want to throw my hands in the air and say F*** it

great, now I have that song in my head too...

well, at least I just made my list of things to do on here...

It helps to set your priorities straight. First make a list of all the things you have to do and rank them according to priority. List the very urgent ones first and the least important ones last. Then do the most urgent tasks first and work down your list.

I'm not sure how you can speed up the CD burning, but you can always do homework while you're waiting.

Good advice - I forgot 'prioritize'...lol
I was good at it when I was working full time. I would be so organized now it seems to be the opposite.

Yup, that's what I try to do when the DVDs are burning, homework. At least be productive in that aspect :)

I might be able to help you with that. Right...

It depends on the maximum write speed of the DVDs - how quickly the data burns onto the disc. Blank DVDs or CDs usually give you the write speed like this, for example (unless they're the printable discs):

DVD-R = 16x speed / 120mins
CD-R = 52x speed / 80mins

The maximum for a DVD is something like 16x, except for dual layer DVDs those are 8x. But the maximum write speed varies depending which brand you get.

If you're doing them on an internal CD/DVD burner (on a laptop, for example), then the maximum speed will be highest speed on CD/DVD drive.

Doing them on an external CD/DVD writer/burner drive with a really good maximum speed will decrease the time they take.

Basically, aw that techinical sh!te aside, the slower the maximum write speed of any blank disc the longer they take to burn data onto them.

Ah hope all that made sense tae ye?

ooohhh! I learned something new today, thanks Graeme

I get it now...on the DVD, the write speed is 16x and I am using my laptop, so unless I spend $ on an external drive, it's gonna be slow anyway right?

well, while they're burning, I can check off my to do list and get my butt in gear.

Thanks for the info !! :applause:

Eh, it should tell ye before burning discs what the maximum write speed is? Laptop CD/DVD drive are usually half the maximum speed of the disc.

If you can afford to spend the money and get an external drive with a good maximum write speed, it's definitely worth it. :)
