OCD showering

In High School I took 45 minutes to shower. I was really OCD about it! My parents had a fit about that. My dad also said a man only needs five minutes. Anyway, now I spend about 15-20 mins, only because I like to day dream while the hot water pours over me.

hello there everyone

for me I like to take my time in the shower spending up to a good 30+ well I won't tell you what horny guys get up to in the shower apart from singing lol

But when I need a really fast shower after I brush my teeth I wash my face give your rossy red face a good washing then jump in the shower have the soap in the wash cloth or use a lot of geal like I do and but 1st get your self wet all over wash urself all over with that wash cloth helps so much more when you have short hair like I do wash whole body then wash all the bubbles off your shower should take no more than 2.5min when you get used to this you can get it down to 2min .. but for me I spend my time in there

Hope this helps

I think its to all down to your mind as I'm sure your grandad pushing you then telling you off for taking so long this giving you a blow

its something mentally deep down all starting off with your grandad .. if you can shower say at work but not at home maybe your trying to rebel from his rules

if you have to be quick really quick pick your self up a egg timer set it for say 5 or 4 mins and then bring the time down to 3 or 4 mins what about that for idea

Hi, everyone. I am wondering if anybody else is ocd about getting squeaky clean in the shower-...quickly? As I've mentioned before I am a machinist, every night I come home soaked in gear oil, machine coolant, metal chips, metal dust/particles,et cetera. Needless to say when i get home I walk right into the shower. Problem is that i take way too long in the shower, like 15 minutes. On a side note, i wash up to my elbows before i leave work so I'm mostly clean but it's hot where I work, cutting torches, welding machines, a huge tempering furnace all running all night long, I get SWEATY. Big time. I try to force myself to be in and out of the shower in 4 minutes because my grandparents raised me and my grandfather learned to shower lightning fast in the army and so expects every other man to do so. Growing up he would joke that only women take more than a 4 minute shower. Now, 20 years later I find myself subconsciously scathing myself for not meeting his 1950s Army Standard. If he comes to visit and I'm just waking up and he hears me in the shower he actually times me on his watch and when I get to the living room I get the whole speech. So as embarrasing as it is, I am asking for tips on quickness. Maybe the washcloth/bar soap method I had drilled into my brain is too slow. I dunno. I know it all sounds stupid albeit it is a goal I've been unable to reach my whole life thus far because every square inch of me has to be scrubbed spotless. I've always been that way. Any ideas at all would be much appreciated.

My brother takes an hour, everyday. I wonder what that makes him..

I think 15 minutes is fine considering what you do. I once managed a 1 minute shower (notice I said once, during a blackout).

Have you tried only using cold water?

Turn on water, wet body, turn off water. Lather most important spots only. Put shampoo on hair. Turn on water, rinse hair and body.
Maybe you can reward yourself by saying "if I finish this quickly I'll have time for such and such, or i'll treat myself to ____ today"

for me and I believe that you can't get yourself washed in 1min you need 15+ mins maybe your have to try and let them understand that

I have the same I don't get told off for taking a long time but I do have a grandad that was in the army and that does just abuse me swear at me calls me lazy keep cutting me out the will but as I don't life with him or even see him its cool I got tired of his ways the way he got brought up at home and in the army so I just keel out of his way when he comes to vist family ... And I get to take as long as I like to sing in the shower

I think my brother is obsessed with cleanliness too. He showers for 30 min - 1 hour. It's ridiculous. Several times I've told him to cut down on his showering but he refused to. I don't think he cares about the water bill, or any bill for that matter. He needs to stop thinking that we're made out of money and start having better financial sense.
