lobotomization

Hey Everyone,

Ive been doing research into mental illness in the 50's and 60s, and man were we ever treated different.

Many probably know about JFK's sister, and how she had a lobotomy done to her, and how they fudged it.

This got me thinking, are there any historical cases, of any person who exhibited symptoms of S/A who may have had this happen to them?.

It scares the crap out of me to think this may have been our fate back in the day.

Discuss.

Oh, probably~

My grandma- mom's mom was bed ridden and addicted to pills for mom's entire childhood. They raised themselves. She went to institutions regularly but was never victim to 'therapy' like shock or the extreme- lobotomy.

Before then, my great uncle was agoraphobic and extremely shy. My family hid him in the basement like a dirty secret until he committed suicide on his 30th birthday.

I am so glad that we are more widely accepted now than would've been years ago... even if people don't understand- many people are willing to accept us and not look at us as though we're crazies.

Wow....Wierdy I have to say that one takes the cake. I never thought about things like that from back then, but then when i stop and think, it makes sense (unfortunately) for the time.

I agree with you, im so thankful weve "evolved" past that way of thinking....at least we are allowed to be left alone if we wish it.

I still think that back in the day, people with SA, were just shy. That was what people thought of them, and that was what they thought of themselves. It might have been for the best actually.
