I always worry when something good happens.

If anything good happens to me, no matter how small, I feel this sense of dread because I feel like that must mean something bad is going to happen. I can never relax and enjoy things because it feels like something good happening to ME is wrong, like there must be a catch. That can't be normal can it?

I feel that way before something good happens. Or, I won't strive to make something good happen because I feel something bad will happen later and absolve all the good fortune.

But, when it actually happens, I can be in the moment and enjoy my luck.

Yes, the more things go good, the more it seems I have to lose, and the more I worry about what is around the corner to pull me down.

I know it happens to me a lot too. Maybe I'm scared that if something good happens it'd be followed by many many bad events. Maybe its part of low self esteem.

Yeah me too. Every time I think something good is going to happen I just get treated rudely and slapped in the face with disappointment, then to top it off - it's subtly and implicitly suggested that it's me that's doing something wrong.

Just become a pessimist. Seriously - it's the solution to all of lifes problems.

I dont meant to encourage despair, - my post is more about me than anything else and a wild satirical exaggeration - so just chillax.

Same here. It doesn't mean I can't always enjoy it, but I do dread what could come after it. A nice thing happening every now and then is something I am able to manage better than really feeling good. Which I am not used to anymore anyway, but it's a scary feeling nonetheless.

It's the whole thing about life being a roller-coaster. It's full of phases, ups and downs.
If good things were the only thing that ever happened to us, we wouldn't appreciate them as much.

But the plus side of this is that when things aren't going so great, you can only look up.

It can take time to work out the balance of it all but when things are going well, that's when it's most important to think of things in the present tense. Don't worry so much about the good moment passing, just focus on enjoying it whilst it lasts. Then, if it does pass, you can still feel buoyed from knowing that you made the most of it, and that things can be good; something people sometimes forget in times of sadness.

I used to worry too much about feeling "bad" afterward, until I started thinking about whether or not it was bad or just not particularly happy. Psyching myself up about whether my day was noticeably good or bad or what it was going to be later kind of dragged me down.

This is one of the things that I dread about life. I know how to enjoy the good moments but don't really know what to do or how to react when the bad moments come. Bad moments usually come by surprise.

This post is the best.

Don't sabotage your good feelings/situations by worrying about the bad that's going to approach. As twiggle said, life is a rollercoaster - sometimes not an enjoyable one - but the low parts of our lives make us appreciate and luxuriate in the highs.
