How does this make you feel?

Compare to the universe, my life, our lives is yet smaller than a piece of skin cell. Society consists or rules; guidelines of how we live our lives. We live by our instincts, love, hate, happiness, they're all in the head. If you think about it... we just exists. Nothing more, nothing less...

When the time comes we vanish. ::(:

To see all these planets it gives me hope that on one of them live some aliens that are more friendly than humans.

I don't think so... Unless the alien's biology needs almost nothing to survive, there will always be some element of greed. Human behaviour is in many cases just economic behaviour.

Scarcity is one of the things that make people act the way they do. Have you heard of prisoner's dilemma from Game Theory? Nice for nice... but how will you know the other person respond?

But it's possible that you're right if only because the aliens are smarter and actually realize that cooperating and being friendly... if enough of them do it... is something that benefits them as a whole...

Or maybe the aliens are so alien that even game theory doesn't apply.

Sorry for rambling. Astronomy, ET and Maths are some of my most favourite subjects. And the introduction to game theory was done by a great professor... He described 'altruism' and 'selfishness' using equations so eloquently. And that's always stuck in my head. It also often give insight onto why people behave like pigs sometime...

I encourage you to wiki prisoner's dilemma if you haven't heard of it.

(Haha... oops Nack... I just went a bit off topic on your thread)

we're just in an alien game and they are playing us like the sims....

This was actually suggested in my philosophy class lol. I forgot who said it and what the exact theory was but the basic idea was that all of our actions are fated by God, and we have no choice in the things we do or say. So then we decided that God or some other higher power is sitting at a computer and we're really the characters in the Sims with those big green diamonds over our heads.

Yes I've thought about that idea a lot haha. Quite possible haha.
How about the idea that everything is basically a virtual reality, a very very advanced one. That nothing is really solid and everything is just energy, or codes, being decoded by our brains as things. Also that as humans we only decode a tiny percentage of what there is. And also that different dimensions or realities exist in the same space.

Man, that opens up a whole other can of worms lol. Now we're getting into what DOES exist? If our minds exist - why? Where did minds come from? Usually, philosophers cop out and say "God!" lol. There's a theory that says nothing in our realities is tangible - that we make everything up in our minds. But then, why, when we leave the room, is that table we imagined still there when we are not? If you imagine owning a cell phone, and you leave it on a desk, forget about it, and walk out, why doesn't it disappear? Why does it remain there to be found later by someone else? The answer was that our minds are controlled by one superior mind (God), who retains that image for us when we are no longer thinking about it.

And then with time and space - I think it was Plato or Aristotle or some other ancient philosopher that created an idea of the world of forms, which is where true knowledge lies, and the world of appearances, which is our distorted perception of the world. And we live to find the world of forms. There's a lot of philosophy tied into this idea and actually, that's what the movie, The Matrix was based off of.

It's pretty trippy, when you think about it. My favorite theory was one proposed by Descarte - at one time he said that reality as we know it was controlled by a demon. I dig him :)

haha yeah it wouldn't surprise me if it was when you look at the world.

I think that if the theory I mentioned is true then its possible that something remains the same for you and other people to see, because there is some kind of general framework of information for different realities, meaning that some things are kind of programmed to be decoded as a certain thing, a bit like a computer game would be programmed. Which is why everyone tuned into this frequency would see a table where there is a table for example.

And yeah you're right about the matrix film. There was also a Twighlight Zone episode aswell called "The Matrix" a while before the Matrix film, which also is based on this idea. You should check it out its good.

It makes me think that everything was planned and created... not by a random explosion, but by "someone".

Thats a similar theme to a book that i've been writing in my head for several years.

The magnitude and never endingness of the universe is beyond my imagination. Like I want to be able to put the whole lot in a box to contain it, but where would the box be?. Its these kind of thoughts that could fry my brain.
