How do you cope with current news events?

I don't watch the news, it's too depressing and/or overwhelming. My coworkers and family members act amazed/appalled when I say I don't know about the latest "headline" events and don't recognize the names of those involved in them. I think I'd like to keep up with things and "care," but avoiding exposure to things is like my subconscious defense mechanism, because I'm almost certain I couldn't cope with all of it.

I don't.
I'm like an elderly person- it riles me up and makes me angry!
So I don't watch or read.
I know what's going on locally and the larger events globally but I try not to care, as there's not much I can do to save the world-- unfortunately.

As much as I hate reading the news, I do it anyway. Out of boredom or curiosity, but I do it.

Some stories make me upset, especially if it's about how families are struggling financially, but for the most part I really don't care. I try not to let it get to me and I'm becoming desensitized and apathetic about a lot of news stories, especially ones about politics.

^ With regards to politics I have completely given up. I don't trust a word anyone has to say, there is so much corruption and conspiracy and things they don't want us to know. I could sit and think about it, and try and work it out somehow, but I'd rather think about food tbh.
I absolutely agree. My dad and my brother can get into a big discussion about it, but I am so uninterested it's crazy. I would rather think about food, too - in fact, I'm doing that right now.

I never feel great after watching the news. We are in a recession. Unemployment is up. A tragedy is happening in a foreign country. Although they are considerate enough to balance the news out with a positive story. And finally a cat/dog/iguana/whatever was seen jet skiing on the lake. Now for the weather....

I don't cope with it.

Current news events and stories triggers me.

I do try to stay updated on the world, but this gossip trash and unnecessary conversations in the news media annoys me to no end. It should not be on my local media about who slept with who and all other trivial crap.

My TV even stays off a majority of the time because I'm am so sick of people in the T.V. acting like donkeys. Everything is so watered down and everyone is trying to get attention to make money. Now even the news outlets can't even get their facts right and buy into controversy.

There are just many things that should not even be in the news and equal a waste of space/waste of brainpower for looking and listening.

I figured why put myself though that if it's going to trigger me? I leave it alone most of the time. There are many things that don't even make the news because it's full of s**t/bias.
