How do I ask for a different time at work?

I am starting a job tomorrow and I don't have a car yet. I have to have someone drive me there but I don't want to pay them money. The bus cost less but the services aren't as good as a Metropolitan area. I want to ride the bus instead but the closest time the bus arrives where I need to go will make me 20 minutes late.

I don't know how they will feel about me having to go there later and relying on these buses. They already know I only have a learner's permit and it's okay with them. I'm sure people have worked there and didn't have a vehicle and caught the bus but I don't know what their hours were.

Do you think it would be okay if I ask to come in a half hour later? How do I ask this?

Just tell them your predicament and see what they think.

Yeah just expose the problem as Sial says, and have a plan B prepared in case they look too annoyed, like getting to your workplace 30 mins earlier instead and spending this 30mins in a coffee shop near by or something. 30 mins is not that much, if you don't live in a big city it's very unlikely that you'll have the bus getting to your workplace exactly 5-10 mins before your shift starts.

I had the same problem. I just asked my boss if I could come in a little later. If they're already okay with you only having a learner's permit, they should be fine with it.

Hey it should be okay I dont see a problem , tell them the situation. I remember when I was trying to get my license I was pressed for time and I had to come in 1030 every day instead of 10 and It was the holidays and they were opening at 9 am. I just wanted to get my license that year so badly.
