How can I control my paranoia?

I always get paranoid. Insects, roller coasters, spiders. It's like what if a murderer hops into the house? What if theres going to be a terrorist attack somewhere in Florida? what if a nuke bomb is going to land on Florida? will the world really end in 2012? I've been looking too much scary stuff on the Internet. I don't know why but I'm interested on bizarre stuff. How can I reduce my anxiety?

I think we have to come to terms with our paranoia.
After watching way too many criminal television shows the paranoia was almost overwhelming.
We must notice that the chances of these certain events happening are slim. If we let these consume us then we start to drive ourselves quite mad.
Sometimes ignorance is bliss. Perhaps cutting out shows, articles that contribute to these. Especially if they are causing paranoia.

I used to be paranoid about there being a tornado wherever I happened to be at the time. I think it went away after I looked up how unlikely that actually was, and started worrying instead about more practical things. Just moves the problem around, really.

i was really scared when the powerplant in japan exploded... since i had an idea of the effects of radioactive poisoning. it is very ugly. add that to the 2012 end of the world prediction thing..

i was also really scared with the massacres that happened last last year..

I also get paranoid a lot. But some days are just like that. Some fear is healthy for me too though. And in the past couple of years it relieves me that i'm not as scared anymore of everything in general. Im still scared but I am braver than before. If you can still hear about scary things but not get affected as much

I started going to a new therapist a month ago, for my depression and anxiety mainly, but I worry a lot about things. I'm at least a little paranoid too, probably more than I think.

Anyway, basically the whole approach that she is having me take is basically reading on thoughts, emotions, etc. And to work on my thoughts. So every time I starting to worry about something, or just have one worried/depressed/anxious thought, I recognize it and kind of analyze it. I basically work through it. And it does help. It especially helps to work through certain thoughts/situations with my therapist.

Supposedly writing can relieve stress, so maybe writing down what's bothering you, and then working through it on paper, maybe even turning it into some kind of personal paper/article or something might help.

But yeah, I agree with others, it would probably be a good idea to cut some things. Especially if they are crazy conspiracy theory sites/youtube vids that most likely aren't true anyway. If they aren't true, or if you may never know/knowing won't make much difference anway--AND it causes you anxiety/distress--what's the point in continuing to read/watch these things?

Just some suggestions. I guess they are very simple/basic and you probably already know them, but I figured I would go ahead anyway and post them. I hope you find some things that work for you and work through your paranoia/anxiety, and become less paranoid and anxious. :)
