Holding your intelligence in contempt

Try living a life with Aspergers Syndrome when you really are stupid.

I have Asperger Syndrome and people always think I'm stupid, but that's just because of how over stimulated I usually get when I'm around people.

People with Aspergers see the world so differently, and I think that alone is reason to say that no one with aspergers is stupid.

Aspergers is different for each person. I don't know about your condition, but one of my symptoms is that I have cognitive difficulties, especially regarding language.

As do I, but that doesn't mean you're stupid.

Well, a neighbours' kid with Asperger's is really intelligent and language-wise way advanced over his years.. Plus, he talks almost like a TV show sometimes.. like a 'little professor' almost...

KJC, have you read anywhere a specific proof that iPod can't cause brain damage? I'd be very careful saying anything like that.. I know someone online who says there has been a 'short circuit' and she had some neurological/hearing-related issues from her iPod... (?)

I think cell-phones and computers and other sources of EM radiation can can be problematic for one's health too.. It may not be researched enough yet and some of it may be controversial, who knows what they will find in 10 or 100 years?

Sorry to hear they don't even let you wash clothes or dishes.. (on the other hand, 'I wish' ha ha..) I have a cousin whom his parents also consider, 'Oh he can't do it' and it's a crying shame cause he's bored a lot then, and he could do so much more than they let him..

Ipod causing braindamage? lol.
It will ruin your hearing though, if you crank up the volume without acknowledging how close and loud in-ear phones really are - a ton of people actually dont know this, so I guess hearing impairment will be the new lifestyle sickness in 20+ years

Thankfully, I am the the expert of computer hardware/software, language, useless facts etc in my near family, so my parents know that they will have an argument on their hands they cannot win if they make claims like that.

I have that all the time.

I stumble over words and often don't quite know how the phrase and/or explain things on the spot. Not verbally anyway. It's quite embarrassing most of the time. But it never really bothers me that they think I'm stupid. In the past I've dealt with VERY manipulative people, being smarted then I let on/they think I am gives/gave me a huge advantage when I ever need(ed) one.

And besides, seeing peoples faces in those classic ''Wait, what? You can do that?'' moments is pretty funny. Teach them a little something about judging people without proper analysis, you know.

Like Mokkat said, blasting your IPoid day in day out will result in hearing loss in the long run.

I don't have any sort of problems besides SA, depression, and anger issues. However I find it difficult to explain sometimes. I loose focus and therefore, forget what to say next or whatever. This happens not just in person, but when I am replying to a thread or whatever, I'll just have a brain fart and close out of the page.

Anxiety can make people seem stupid because they are too nervous to think straight. I think I appear stupid to people because I have no comon sense. Maths and science have no place in my workplace so I am the stupid one among less educated people.

I second that, Aspergers does not mean you are stupid!

On the other hand for someone like me being stupid is great. I haven't figured out yet if I am or not but it doesn't matter. When some one thinks I'm slow I find it incredibly helpful, because like you said they don't expectant too much of you.
Then I don't feel pressured and I'm less likely to feel anxious :D
