Hi there, any bipolars here?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the board, and poking around a little and I noticed there wasn't a section for bipolar disorder. I was wondering if there were people here who had it? I was diagnosed about 4 years ago and have been doing my best to keep it under control with meds, but sometimes it just seems too much to deal with. I just find myself wondering... "is this it?" when it comes to life.

Welcome : )

I've been told I have bipolar disorder by 3 different mental health professionals. So I guess that is technically a diagnosis. But I've never really taken it too seriously because I really don't want to have to be on meds. Well, more so that I just don't want to have to go on an unending trial of meds. What I have tried, has been awful. But as of late, it's really starting to get to me again.... so I'm considering trying something new.

Hi there :)

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder (type 2) four years ago and the diagnosis has since been confirmed by two other psychiatrists. When I didn't have the right meds my disorder would mess up my life so bad I could barely function. even though the meds I'm currently on seems to work (I've only started taking them half a year ago), I still have episodes of deep depression and hyperactivity. When I get into my maniacal periods I have a thousand thoughts at once, I want to do everything, but in the end my thoughts become so disorganized that I end up doing nothing. My depressions are the worst, I just want to sleep and think about death and the meaningless life I live. Unfortunately I suffer from severe insomnia and since bipolars' are high on the suicide list my doctor is really strict about sleeping meds. Just hang in there, I know its tough as hell, but by seeking help there is hope for us.

They say it's possible. After 10 months, doctors still aren't sure what my diagnosis is...

I'm a bit bipolar-ish, not really officially diagnosed, just have had ups and downs...
(It's probably of the 'milder' variant too...)

Trying to tweak it with nutrition and lifestyle and non-med approaches...

Many creative and awesome people have had it, even Winston Churchill!! :)
'Bipolar for Dummies' has some good tips... Has anyone read it?

It took me eight years and four different shrinks before I got my diagnosis, and even though three of the doctors has given me a diagnosis I've been told that the diagnosis isn't final, and may change depending upon how my treatment works.

Arguably, one psychologist said I had it. The best diagnosis with that might be rapid-cycling Bipolar II. At the rate things are going, probably rapid-cycling Bipolar I if things don't really get any better in life.

Although, to be honest, I think the best diagnosis is more on the lines of Borderline Personality Disorder. The wider range of mood swings.

Also, welcome to the forums.
