Herbal medicines for SA

I recently got put on the waiting list for CBT (which is about 3 months) . Im going to uni in September for my 2nd year and im feeling more worried than ever because I didn't do that well in my first year.

I really want to do something that will take the edge of my SA so I can make friends (the first few weeks is crucial for making friends in halls)

So iv been doing some research on Herbs used to treat anxiatey. Allot of them like the sort of thing you take to make you fall asleep better. I don't want something that will knock me out (cos then I certainly wouldn't be able to socialise).

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!:)

Note: kava kava is banned in the uk otherwise I would of used that:/

Not sure. Wish I could help. Just be skeptical when doing any research. Many "herbal" medicines are really just placebos.

You are lucky that CBT is available free via the NHS. Most countries either do not have a health service e.g. the USA, or it is not included since it is not strictly medical.

I'm curious about this as well. I don't have much experience with that sort of thing or medication in general, apart from antidepressants which didn't help me. I have just started taking valerian root hoping that it will calm me down and help me sleep better but apparently it takes a few weeks for it to work.

There's Bach's flower remedies. I have tried Rescue Remedy and I actually find that it helps in those peak situations when I'm extremely anxious. Not in a big way but it's as if it just takes the edge off it.

Kava kava sounds like something i'd like to try but it's banned in my country too, apparently.

Some people have claimed to have success with St John's Wort, but it's mainly thought of as an antidepressant.

I live in the US and I can get kava kava. If that worked for you, perhaps searching online you can find some to buy that will ship to your country. Try trusted sites like Amazon.com etc. (I don't know, just a suggestion) Good Luck!
I've been using herbal remedies for awhile now, but I still have my RX in case of emergency.
I prefer Kava Kava- the extract form is really good, at least I find it works for me.
...OK, I quickly checked Nutritional Vitamin & Health Supplements, Herb & Herbal Remedies & Multi Vitamin Supplements - The Vitamin Shoppe and (preliminarily) looks like you may be able to get kava kava shipped to other countries. We have a vitamin shoppe store locally, and that's where I get mine.

I started taking L-theanine because my SA med was making me so tired I couldn't do anythng. I did a lot of research and really liked what I read. So far things have beeen good. I'm able to do some things that normally I would have some major issues with. I'm excited to see where this goes. It's pretty cheap so I think it's worth a bottle.

I hear that people build up a tolerance for l-theanine. I see it's been about a month since your post... is it still working as effectively for you now?

Have you tried Kalms Herbal Medicines -Sounds promising, I was thinking of using them for my driving test but I'm pretty sure there'll be a warning saying -do not drive after taking this-

I take ashwagandha. I use 900 mgs, & am around 140lbs... I use 400 mgs suntheanine, & 100 of 5htp. I take all of those along with other supplements on the way to work with a smoothie. This formula has been working for me for over two years now. No side effects to note.
