i also knew my great-grandmother, who lived to be 101 - she was a tough ol' bird
^ Yeah I knew my great-grandmother too and I actually saw her more than my grandparents as a kid, only because she lived on the other side of the city from us and my dad always checked on her since she was starting to get dementia at the time. (We eventually did move her to a nursing home) I always found her interesting; Sicilian immigrant, bilingual in Italian and English, strict old Catholic, went to church every Sunday and religious holidays, never ate meat on Fridays, she ate pasta every Sunday, she was super short (she was under 5' 0"), had 8 kids, and was a total packrat. She grew up during the Great Depression though, so I suppose you never really change your ways after something like that. She was 96 when she died, I seriously thought she would've made it to 100. I really wish she was alive now though. As a little kid, I couldn't communicate with her like I could now. I would've loved to learn Italian from her, ask her about her life, and hear all kinds of stories.

Yeah, my grandparents were all a part of my life growing up and they still are. My dad's mom has passed away at this point, but I still see my other grandparents often. My mom's parents are even coming over for dinner tonight.

I never got to know my maternal grandfather as he died in a car accident when my mother was 16. I knew my grandmother on her side and my paternal grandparents very well as they lived nearby when I was young and I spent a lot of time with them. And I was fortunate to have gotten to know my maternal great grandmother - such a sweet little old lady! All have long since passed on though. I loved my grandparents and really miss them!

all my grandparents are dead now. I get really sad when I think of this. If you have a chance to meet yours and get to know them don't pass it up or you will regret it. Old people are full of wisdom. I love hearing about the old days :(

I've met all of the them. Met two of my great grandparents as well, though one of them didn't know who I was. Both of the great grandparents are now deceased, along with my mom's mother. My grandfather on my mom's side turned 86 on Monday.

All of them except my dad´s dad who died a year before my birth. My dad´s mum died at the age 63, when I was 8. She lived in other town and we used to visit her quite often.

My mum´s parents lived in the same house as us. My granddad died in 1994 when I was 21, and my grandmother died in 2007, she was 91.
