what is it about?

It has a very minimalist story but basically, it's about a man (known as Wander by the fanbase) who travels to a forbidden land on his horse and carrying the body of a deceased young woman with him. He makes it to the shrine in the land, and puts her body on the altar. There he meets an entity known as Dormin who is said to have the ability to bring back the souls of the dead. Dormin tells Wander he will bring back the girl's soul if he defeats sixteen Colossi spread throughout the land. And he sets off to do so.

The game is essentially 16 boss fights and has very little dialogue and few characters. For a lot of fans, the atmosphere is what makes the game. It's definitely not for everyone, though. I've seen some people criticize it's minimalist take and others praise it.

Recently played the Shadow of the Colossus remake (had it pre-installed and ready to go at midnight, lol) and man was it excellent. The original is my favorite video game and seeing it in today's graphics was a treat. Already played the hell out of it and completed the trophy list. I kept getting way distracted in the photo mode it offers...
No kidding! The most beautiful spot in the game for me is right near the bridge on the far right of the map. It's where all of the waterfalls are surrounded by a canopy of trees but it's impossible to get close to...it reminds me of Niagra Falls. Compared to the original, I can literally see grass and flowers moving with the wind now outside the Shrine of Worship. Anyways, I'm glad they didn't change the basic mechanics.

It's just a shame that a lot of the time the game attracts such zealous opposing sides.

It seems it's either glorified or vilified a lot of the time. It is a really special experience if you go in blind - but too often it's raised to such heights of hype that it can't possibly reach it.

I really have to commend you on your restraint there. It's the best way to sell it. ;3

I'll be going into The Last Guardian soon. I've been going dark on anything about it since it got a release date.

For sure, I was in awe. It's a gorgeous game and I was only playing the base version on a standard PS4. The PS4 Pro version allows for 60 frames in performance mode or even better graphics in cinematic mode.

Yea, on a gaming forum I frequent for it, there was this guy who posted a thread and basically said he bought the game purely out of hype alone without looking up anything about it. He actually thought it was going to be an 80+ hour, open world RPG like Skyrim and said while he thought the game was good he was disappointed he didn't get what he expected from it. And the rest of us were like "uh well, duh dude. Why didn't you even bother to find out the genre?" lol.

Ah, The Last Guardian. Talk about a divisive game. It has it's flaws but personally, I greatly enjoyed it. That Team ICO magic was still there as usual, IMO. Hope you enjoy it!

You want to know how I got these scars?
IMO, it's definitely worth getting but I'm also incredibly biased, haha. Have you ever played the original?

No I never have played rhe original. I looked at the trailer on YouTube and it kind of reminds me of Zelda (which I loved) but a more grown up version.

Ah, I gotcha. I've played many a Zelda (Ocarina of Time, The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are among my favs) myself but Shadow is quite different in that there are no other enemies to fight other than the 16 Colossi and no other NPCs to interact with or towns/villages or anything like that. The setting is a desolate, forbidden land.

Those things seem to turn some people off from the game (which is understandable) but I found it to be a breath of fresh air the first time I played it.

I'm going to pick up LOZ: Wind Waker again.

When I went to play two months ago I couldn't find it, so I played through Luigi's Mansion (twice!) instead. Got to rank A house!

I did find Legend of Zelda a few days ago though, it was sitting inside my ganecube (I play everything on my wii). I hadn't played this in probably 10 years, man had I been wanting too!

Which Legend of Zelda? That reminds me. Bought an SNES classic mini a while back. Pretty awesome. I recently had to spend over a week at a hotel where the wifi never worked (in spite of my many complaints and phone calls). The classic mini was my primary source of entertainment. I managed to get to Vega on Street Fighter II but didn't quite regain the godlike skills I had back in the 90s. Played Zelda, Link to the Past about 1/3 the way through and started Chrono Trigger (the latter being widely held to be the best RPG of all time). The mini works well, it's tiny (super portable), and really easy to add any game you want for *cough* free.

I was playing The Wind Waker for the gamecube, which has aged incredibly well. I also have a collectors disc that has the first two games as well as Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. I've played through the latter two multiple times, but have never gotten through the first two! Link to the past I love too, I played through that a good handful of times as a kid on the GBA port.

Also, perhaps you could offer me some advice. The Wii virtual console is going to suspend services at the end of the year, which means I need buy any games I want to have on the wii before then. Is Chrono Trigger a must buy? I've heard good things, but have never actually played it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Virtual_Console_games_for_Wii_(North_America)

I already have Super Mario 64, Paper Mario, Super Mario Bros., Kirby and the Crystal Shards, and Final Fantasy.

Right now I'm considering Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Final Fantasy II, III, Mystic Quest, Yoshi's Story, and maybe some Sonic games. Any outrageous oversights you can spot?

Yeah, Chrono Trigger is a must buy. I've never played Super Mario RPG but heard it's great. I'd also get Secret of Mana, Illusion of Gaia, and Earthbound in the RPG department. Street Fighter II is obviously the fighting game that started it all. Great fun that one.

Just to make sure that everyone knows: Do keep a watch on Humble Bundle. For those who don't know what it is, it's a website which offers 'bundles' of games for a reasonable price, and after buying it, the games will be linked to your steam account. Even better, they say that the money goes to charity.

I'm mentioning this here because of the occasional free games that pop up there. In March itself, at least three games were offered free for a limited time. Of course, not all of them might be enjoyable, but I've accumulated a lot of games just by keeping an eye on the offers available there. But I do think a lot of people know about it already... nevertheless, I'd have to say that they have one of the best bundles of indie games.

I'll have to mention this explicitly though: If it weren't for Humble Bundle, I might never have had the opportunity to get introduced to the Killing Floor franchise.

Thanks! Reading back my post though, I am realizing that A) The link did not work and B) I sound like those neighbors from the homeadvisor commercial who after asking if they know any good roofers, to then call around, get a bunch of quotes, find the best one, and then make an appointment for them. I did not mean to sound so demanding, my apologizes.

I did totally forget about Earthbund! It is unfortunately not on the wii virtual console, I've probably checked it a dozen times, just everything about it makes it sound right up my alley.

Have you played Undertale? Another game I have not played, but I hear if you like Earthbound it is a game you may also like. I'v been tempted to get it a couple times, but I hate spending too much time on my computer, it's one of those red flag issues for me.

No no, nothing about your post felt the least bit demanding.

Earthbound is pretty awesome in its own weird way. I remember thinking "what the crap is this?" the first time I rented the game from my local Blockbuster, then eventually getting it and being mesmerized. I had a friend who tuned in to its peculiar vibe instantly.

Never heard of Undertale, sorry.

Time is always such a problem. Shamefully I must admit that I have probably a couple of dozen games that I've bought and never even cranked up for a first time.

Ah, well if you do find yourself with some free time you should definitely give Undertale a look! Again, I haven't played it, but I do know that the guy who created it was a huge Earthbound fan. The graphics and gameplay appear to have a similar feel, while also being their own.

Perhaps when I come into to some spending money I will play them both, and then give you a more accurate description and comparison ::p:
