Fear of the Future

Hi Everyone,

This is my first time posting and I'm glad that I have found the courage do it. I was hoping that someone or a few of you share the same or similar fear of the future.

What I mean by this is...I feel like I don't have what it takes to compete or live happily within society. I have this overwhelming fear of failure and I constantly think about how much easier it would be to just "not be here" anymore. My anxiety and depression sends me into tail spins and I wish I knew how to control it. I understand how irrational my thoughts are but, I can't stop the fear and anxiety.

:kickingmyself:

Sincerely,
Banini

Yeah, I know how you feel. I feel a lot of uncertainty now I am over 50. What is around the corner that can wipe me out.

For starters hi! Welcome to the forum :)
I can completely understand your fear of the future, i'm terrified of failure and not being completely in control. Learning to relax and not worry about it is a daily challenge.

Hey, Banini. Sorry you're feeling that way. When you're not seeing anything positive about your future, it can be a tough thing to think about.

I used to hate questions like, "what do you want to do?", or "where do you see yourself in 10 years?". I hope you feel better.

Welcome to the forum.

It's so comforting to actually feel like you're not alone (taking from the motto of this website). I just feel like I'm about to crumple under the pressure sometimes. I see all these other people excelling and it makes me shrink. I'm definitely allergic to uncertainty.

Thanks for welcoming me to the forum singing-love :) I'm glad I'm here.

I know what you're saying. As cliché as it sounds, focusing on one step at a time is a good advice to follow to be less overwhelmed.

I'm sorry to hear that, Banini. I can relate though, you just need a boost! I go for days, weeks, or even months when I feel utterly worthless and useless; then something good comes about, whether it is a new friend, a good grade, or a great day out. Those moments are the best time(s) in my life! I feel on top of the world. When I am spiralling into depression, knowing that a day like that will come around again is enough to keep me holding on.

If you feel like you need to talk to anyone, just know that we are here for you. I'm happy to do what I can to help you :)

You can't do anything if you're afraid of failure. Everyone fails. Everyone. No one has ever, is ever, or will ever be perfect at everything. It's through failure that you learn. You can't expect a life where you don't fail, but you can expect and create a life where failure is normal because it helps you improve your skill at something. Be eager to learn, and open to the fact that everyone makes mistakes, not just you. Besides, you'll never be in the future. All that you have, see, feel and can interact with or change exists right now. The things you want and need have to happen right now.
