It's all in how you use it. The first few years of me being on the net we had IRC party's just about every month. We would gather at someone's house and go out for the night or weekend from there. Out of the dozens of people I met that way only 2 I know knew each other IRL prior to those meets. I have made (and lost =( ) some VERY good friends and even met my wife online (IRC, not a dating site) and have been married for 15 years.

Sure, sitting at home surfing the web or playing WoW all day isn't prefered, but those people (and I count myself among them) would probably not be social butterflies without the internet. If anything if gives them an option to them that was previously not available.

that's the thing, Facebook is just one more thing in a long line of things that people have used as a means to socialize - it's not the only way to do it, and it surely won't be the last way to do it

way back when, someone drew a painting on the wall of a cave so that someone else could come along and find it - that's communication, and socialization

Facebook is just a fancy version of cavemen telling everyone what they did last weekend

Well obviously I am here online myself but it took me years to warm up to it ...but again I dont have SA so I can def see where it could be very beneficial to those who do. I just think there are certain things that really arent meant for kids and the internet and cell phones are 2 of them. I too have met lots of good people online whom I really cared about and still do, some I still talk to and some I dont. Heck I never sent out my first cell phone text until about a month ago. lol.

Now that I really think about it, it's not good for me.
I find myself looking at other peoples "lives" and feeling like I am a failure.. for e.g. lately everyone has been travelling overseas etc and I have felt depressed about it because I would love to travel but I can't keep a job because of my SA and therefore can't travel etc. I just generally envy others lives etc.
