Today is Best Friends Day. Do you have a best friend or a few best friends? I have a group of friends with whom I'm fairly close. We all worked together, but now there are only two of us left, so I don't see everybody else as often now that we're not in the same workplace. I feel like we've drifted apart because of this. I have the same issue with school friends. I've never really made friends in college, but have 2 from high school whom I text on occasion. I'm friends on fb with several people to whom I used to be close, but don't really feel the connection anymore.
I have noticed groups from my hs are still very close (I see pics/postings on fb). I'm very jealous of this, and think that my SA kept me from getting/staying very close to people.
A couple of months ago, I went to the funeral for my Girl Scout leader. Most of the other girls from my troop were there. I stood with them, but felt very out of place. I always felt that way to some degree with this and almost every group.
I think one issue I have is that I can get along with almost anybody, so I don't really have a strong connection to one clique. My ex from high school made a list of groups in our class (he has a VERY close-knit group of friends-they are all still best friends). He described me as a "floater"--as in, I float from group to group.
My parents have no friends to speak of. My mom was always friends with my friends' moms when I was in school--now that I don't hang out with the kids, she doesn't see the moms. My dad would sometimes have dinner with some guys he used to work with, but they no longer work together.
I don't want to end up like them.
Sorry for the long rant. :
