"Best" Friends

Today is Best Friends Day. Do you have a best friend or a few best friends? I have a group of friends with whom I'm fairly close. We all worked together, but now there are only two of us left, so I don't see everybody else as often now that we're not in the same workplace. I feel like we've drifted apart because of this. I have the same issue with school friends. I've never really made friends in college, but have 2 from high school whom I text on occasion. I'm friends on fb with several people to whom I used to be close, but don't really feel the connection anymore.
I have noticed groups from my hs are still very close (I see pics/postings on fb). I'm very jealous of this, and think that my SA kept me from getting/staying very close to people.
A couple of months ago, I went to the funeral for my Girl Scout leader. Most of the other girls from my troop were there. I stood with them, but felt very out of place. I always felt that way to some degree with this and almost every group.
I think one issue I have is that I can get along with almost anybody, so I don't really have a strong connection to one clique. My ex from high school made a list of groups in our class (he has a VERY close-knit group of friends-they are all still best friends). He described me as a "floater"--as in, I float from group to group.
My parents have no friends to speak of. My mom was always friends with my friends' moms when I was in school--now that I don't hang out with the kids, she doesn't see the moms. My dad would sometimes have dinner with some guys he used to work with, but they no longer work together.
I don't want to end up like them.
Sorry for the long rant. ::eek::

Me neither.
I've a few friends I'm a little close with. Not sure if they're best friends though. Btw I'm a floater too. And after having an awful experince with my best friend in highschool, I think I tend to expect too much of my 'best' friends. Of course that's not fair.

I have a few close friends........friends mean a lot to me.......nd i care for them,,,nd they also care for me...i just wanna make them laugh..never make them feel lonely..

here r some woderful quotes on true friends:

A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out."

Everyone hears what you say. Friends listen to what you say. Best friends listen to what you don't say."

“Friends are those rare people who ask how you are and then wait to hear the answer”

Nope-- don't have one and don't really care.

As with every other hallmark type holiday created to make money from a target amount of people; if you have friends or a best friend-- every day should be 'best friend day'.
Cherish people close to you EVERY DAY; not just when the calendar says you should give them a call or go out for a beer.

Frr... frrrrr... frieee... I can't even pronounce it ::eek::

No, I have no friends, so I can't have any best friend.

The fact that someone created the Best Friends Day sounds a bit weird to me :s

I have to say, being a 'floater' instantly clicked with me. That's exactly how I've described my high school experience before. There were a few folk whom I was closer with and whose company I enjoyed more, but I rarely lacked for someone to talk to.

I suspect to some degree this was small-town highschool stuff though, because that trend did not continue into college.

Insofar as friends go, I had two very close best friends in high school, a couple of less-tight-but-still-clicked friends in high school. Currently I don't really have any real life friends, but I know, work, laugh, and cry with a fantastic small group on the Internet. That helps keep me afloat, heh.

Also, just Googling Best Friends Day seems to put it about on par with national Talk Like a Pirate Day.

I had been thinking about starting a thread about friends but wasn't sure exactly how to focus it until I heard that today was "Best Friends Day". That was basically how I decided to begin this thread. I don't necessarily put a lot of credence into this pseudo-holiday, it just sparked my idea.
I do like celebrating days along these lines, though (Sweetest Day in October is one of my favorites--it's kinda like Valentine's, but nobody knows about it, so every time I've given somebody a card or wished them a happy sweetest day they are surprised). I like to make other people feel special, even if I don't.
I'm a little upset I missed National Doughnut Day this year...

Like a few others that have posted, i'm a floater. i have two really close friends. i have many other friends, but none of them clicked with me quite as well. i have no trouble making friends, so i never lack a companion when needed. this comes in handy because i always have to surround myself with people. being alone for too long makes me feel vulnerable, i suppose

Absolutely.

I have one best friend. I didn't know this day even existed. I might see him tomorrow, anyway. Right now he's busy trying to seduce a girl. Seriously.

Didn't even know best friend day existed, oh well me and my best friend won't care about it. Still i'll tell him about it and we are both gonna laugh on how useless that day is.
