It's not just you. In my experience, most people add nothing to the world & simply make it less pleasant for others to live in.

You are not alone. ::p:

I think the society needs changing... And if we don't do it, who will?

Some people do look down upon others, usually if they haven't experienced anything bad.. then they can understand..

If you're bored of that place, maybe go somewhere else to hang out with different people?

The inadequacies of the social aspects of western society are magnified when you consider it's influence on other countries. Due to the narrow view of beauty that western society upholds, we are drastically changing the standards of beauty in places like south America and Asia which is shameful as these people are going under the knife because they are told they are not good enough for not having the characteristics that another race has. Not to mention the hypersexualisation of women which is vulgar and so wrong.

Also, western influence has bought our excessive lifestyle to countries like India, china and brazil where obesity rates have swelled. Not only is our western lifestyle contributing to increasing health problems in our country. it is also contributing to other nations' health problems.

These sorts of issues are all the more apalling when you realise that these people are in their own country and deserve the right to uphold their own culture and lifestyle, which is being denied of them right now. I think we have a responsibilty so long as our society continues to influence others the way it is now.***

Do I hate western society? Yes. It's all about acting a certian way to be and look cool. God forbid you act goofy or do something that isn't the norm. And if you do prepare for people to tell you straight up how stupid you are or talk about you behind your back. And then there is school. Let's just shove information down our kids throats until they're ****ting out books and are smarter than the other countries' kids. School is getting increasingly difficult and the stress it causes is increasing. I'm a pessimist but only because society made me one. I believe I see the world as it is. People competing to constantly be better or at least think they're better than the next person (obviously an overstatement but true for the majority of *******s in western society).

I don't think anything is being denied them. If they are choosing western lifestyles, western standards and western culture over their own then it is just that - a choice. We may argue over whether it is a good choice or a bad one (personally I think it is regrettable that they seem to be choosing western culture over their own) but it is still a choice.

Hates a strong word... I am concerned where we as a society are heading... Mostly in terms of our lack of morals. I may be a little archaic but, what happened to the Mum, Dad and two kids ideal....... Dad goes out to work and mum mostly stays home to bring up the kids.......ETC, ETC

It has it's positives and negatives and whether I like it or not, I'm part of society. There may be things I dislike about society, but I wouldn't say that I hate it. Besides, it's always best to look at the individuals who make up society rather than the whole group. At least, I believe so.

Okay, that is your opinion but i must respectfully disagree. if you look at advertising, there is a science behind advertisements. Psychologists are actually hired to research what appeals to the target groups in order to increase sales.

Ads for skin lightening cream in India for example, use emotional manipulation where they will compare a dark skinned girl to a light skinned girl, the latter shown in the ad to be more socially accepted and more content with life. The ad is targeting the average Indian girl's insecurity or fear of rejection by others and this seed of doubt compels her to maybe purchase the product. You may rubbish this but young girls are especially susceptible to this sort of message and I'm sure from personal exp rejection from society was a real fear growing up.

The question here is whether it really is a choice if the decision to buy the product was driven by such an emotion. I think people think that what they buy is based on a logical decision but it isn't. Ads appeal to your insecurities and desires to make you want the product. Just think of it this way, you do not need sexuality to sell a car, chocolate or a piece of clothing. So why not just have an average girl wear the dress as opposed to Gisele Bubunchkin? *And this manipulation is not only limited to advertising, music videos, movies, any vehicle of popular culture, they all use the same tools to sell a lifestyle, an idea, beauty etc.
