Problems recognising faces - is it just me?

It likely is an eye contact issue- or your memory or powers of observation aren't that great when it comes to these things. I have no problem remembering faces (and even remember exactly where I've seen them before), but putting faces and names together sometimes takes time. Also, I'm not observant at all, so if someone has a new hairstyle, I probably won't notice (or I'll know there's something different, but not be able to put my finger on it).

I have Aspergers as well as SA and I believe I was told that trouble recognizing faces is a symptom of the former.

No way is it just you, some people have auditory memory, others have photographic memory, I'm photographic, I never forget a face, but I'll forget someone's name ten or more times before I remember it, you can probably recall everything at your lectures, I wouldn't remember anything if the person just stood there and talked, I honestly couldn't tell you about a single lecture I've been to, but I know exactly what the honey up front looked like, and what she was wearing even, and for that matter what the teacher was wearing, its all in the way your mind works. No worries!;)

I have trouble with faces all the time. I don't think it had anything to do with not paying attention or eye contact. People's faces seem to morph as I am looking at them. It's hard to explain but the faces look the same, but different at the same time.

I also can't reconcile a persons face with a picture of them, unless I know the person very well.

I have exactly the same problem. I thought that it was weird too. Never thought it had something to do with SA though. And also I never remember what peope were wearing. Even if i have been the whole day with them!

As someone else said, it can be a symptom of Asperger's Syndrome, or some other condition on the autism spectrum.

I don't have a problem recognizing people, usually. But if more than one person has the same hairstyle, or hair color, or something else is similar to other people, my mind mixes them up with one another. My mind groups people together, it seems. One guy with short dark hair who is a certain height will become another guy with short dark hair who is around that height, & so on, & so on. It's only after I get to know people & see them often that I can distinguish them from each other, unless there's something distinguishable about their look from the beginning. People who look like others are automatically grouped into the box in my mind with the others that look similar to them & it can take a long time for me to distinguish one single person from another. Usually, I never can pick one person apart & if I see someone I've seen before my mind goes "Oh, there's a short blonde lady." Even if I should probably know her, my mind hasn't allowed me to distinguish her from all the other short blonde ladies I've seen.
If any of that made sense lol.

I don't think I have a problem recognizing faces.

Remembering names is a different story though. I find that I'm concentrating on my reaction to the introduction too much (do I have a smile, am I saying the right things?) and then when they say their name, it just goes in one ear and out the other. It's really embarrassing to have have to ask a persons name like 30 seconds after they just said it.
