It's official. I'm retarded.

Hey, one thing you gotta remember is to believe in yourself and never give up. I know four times probably feels like alot and probably is to some extent, but you can do it. The one advice i can give you is probably by now you know the route that you are tested on, so just go on there and drive with someone sitting next to you. And then on test day just think that its just like the other day when you drove with someone next to you, tht might help....
Luckily for me, I remember i was nervous as hell with my heartrate probably above 150bpm, BUT I passed mine in the very first try when i was 17!!!

I failed my 4th go at my driving test this morning. It's f**ked. I can drive fine any other time, but when it comes crunch time, my nerves take over (no matter how prepared I thought I was) and I just **** out miserably.

I've been told that if you don't pass by your 2nd or 3rd time, then you weren't destined to drive. So how is it possible that I can drive well any other time apart from during a practical test?

My lack of a driver's licence is the sole thing that is keeping me from being taken seriously in life. It's not fair. I wish I could just drop dead.

By whom, you or other people? And if other people who are they, immature status driven young ones who need to prove themselves and ridicule anyone to make themselves feel better? Seriously in the real world a drivers license doesn't matter. I have one but I don't even use it. That attitude of be all end all is perhaps your downfall. You've put so much pressure on yourself that you cease to function when it comes to the crunch. Focus on other goals that you want to achieve, and realise that driver's licenses are not that important. When you don't put so much stake on it, you will function better.

I passed my test on the first go, but I was very very cautious and conservative making turns, parking, with my speed etc, and I got told by my driving instructor to be very polite to the tester because she can't stand poor manners. So one tip is to be very cautious. It's better to be slow than fast, esp if you are a guy. They would have a preconception of a young guy already I think. Disprove that and you'll be liked. I ended up getting my picture taken with sweat beads everywhere. Looking back on it I was so anxious but it's nothing now. When you look back on it it won't weigh so much on your heart.

You described over 90% of the population there.

As for people not taking Schist seriouslly, you may have the same problem even after getting your licence and car, in that these people may likely find something else to look down on.

Exactly.

Aren't what? Aren't dating a guy with a nice car?

I've heard the German test is one of the toughest in the world. Is it true that if you fail 2-3 times you have to see a shrink, and what exactly is the 'idiot test'?

I'm not sure as i don't live there or have any real ties to Germany, but when my dad took it 20 odd years ago it seems to have been pretty tough. He told me he ended up translating the whole theory book into urdu (his native language), partly because he worked as a translator and needed the practice, but partly i suspect because it was the best way to learn the damn thing !

The idiot test is just what they call it (probably used to call it actually) when you failed your practical three times. You were considered dumb, probably a hazard to yourself and others on the road, and you therefore had to take a more rigorous test.

Bad times for my dad anyway, but he made it eventually (i guess his instructor eventually took pity on him, because he definitely didn't pass on merit :p). Like feathers said though, ability to pass driving test has nothing to do with intelligence. We're all different, most likely a lot of the things that come naturally to you, others struggle with...

Bingo. Australia is pretty much America Jr. morals-wise.

Surprisingly, the lack of a driver's licence and car is the only real major obstacle to being taken seriously in life for me.

Cynic is right. Women will never date guys without a car or a driver's licence. Any one who says otherwise is full of ****.

I date a guy without one.

I wonder if I could report you for sayinig i'm full of ****

Maybe some bitterness and anger management classes would give you some perspective. Some men like to blame women's 'shallowness and materialisticness' for them not getting a gf, you do sound like one.

I just don't want to be one of those people who has to sit the test 700 times before they pass like that Korean woman. If that happens, I declare here and now that I will kill myself. ::(:

I'm at my wit's end. It's ****ed. ****ed as ****.

I dare say that a little bit of perspective might benefit you.

Someone asked me about it and i gave an honest answer. The point i was originally trying to make was that despite all this discouragement, my dad carried on and eventually passed the test. It does take a lot of courage!

Anyway, you say '**** humanity and its corrupt values', so you realize these are corrupt values. Who are the real idiots, judging someone on their ability to drive a car... Screw them!

Does it cost money (anything significant) to sit for the test?

If not just keep taking it as often as possible, you will get acclimated to the situation by familiarity and it should lose its edge nerves-wise, and you might get lucky and pass before then too.

What skill actually is causing you to fail?

I just got my license a few days ago. When I had to parallel park, I hit the curb with the back tire...pulled forward and hit it again....and again. I've never had a hard time doing it before because I spent time clearly memorizing each step....being nervous totally threw all that out the window. Luckily, I pulled out and tried it again and could barely do it.

Being nervous literally does make you dumber. It tmporatily lowers your working memory (your think on your feet ability), which makes you make mistakes and make weird decisions you wouldn't otherwise make. So don't compare your ability to drive nervous as hell with your un nervous or less nervous self.

I'm sure they told you why you failed, so spend time practicing that until even your dumber self can't screw it up. Why not practice the same route you drove on the test? The closer you can get to the same circumstances the better

You can't be more retarded than me. I did my test 1 month ago, and i passed from the 1st time. But a few days ago, I experienced my first accident .. and at the most stupid way ever. I don't know what was wrong with me, but instead of driving through for a parking lot for like 5 meters, i was reversing full speed for a spot way behind .. and rammed 2 parked cars .. Conclusion: This retarded behaviour costed me a lot of money..
