Slight mania followed by extreme SA

I seem to have an issue where I will be in a down state for 10 days in a row. Not really depressed, but very self conscious, signs of social anxiety and in turn avoident.

My brain works slow, I can barely speak and all my self consciousness stems from this.

Then out of nowhere I will go through a very productive state, where I can talk like a great salesmen, don't care what people think and am very productive. This is usually followed by a crash back into the other state.

My question is, I want to treat this, but I don't want to stay in the first state, is this possible?

2nd question. All pdocs I been to say SSRI's are the way to go. I've taken them in the past and over time my system developed sides that I just cannot deal with. Has anybody found any alternative?

Sounds like Bipolar Disorder.......The second phase would be mania and that's part of the disorder as the first phase. From what I know about the disorder, it's a packaged deal.

Yeah, sounds a lot like bipolar to me. The only suggestion I can think of, aside from medication, is working out some sort of emergency fall-back plan for your down times, so you can safely ride it out when it does happen. Telling certain people about it is important, so they know you aren't specifically avoiding them, but that you just have these times when you need space.

Is there any treatment for the slow brain/slow speech and pronunciation problems? That part is ruining me socially and financially!

I don't know if ADHD medication would work for you. Ask a doctor about it. Depression can cause you those types of issues.

I have this problem too but I don't want to take medication for it. I want to practice speaking to people in hopes that my languistic skills will improve.

I don't think it is something that practice is going to help. I hope I'm wrong, but if your brain isn't working up to speed then you are never going to jump that hurdle by yourself.

However, I have never met a doc who knows what in the world I am talking about. It is like a huge ring of hopelessness. Wish I could find somebody, somewhere with even a little bit of knowledge on what I have and how to treat it.
