In (freekn) somnia

Not the same.

I will sleep but not fully. For days I may get 3hrs each day at best.

My time is terribly inaccurate. It may be less it may be more.

YES i have EXTREMELY bad insomnia... i've even been to an inpatient place because of it!!! DO NOT 1.) drink any water a couple hours before bed 2.)drink any coffee, tea, eat any chocolate, ANYTHING with caffeine like 5 hours before bed!! seriously, this does help! 3.) Get the vitamin "melatonin." and take it a half an hour to an hour before bed. Sometimes when people are tired throughout the day it's because their body is producing melatonin at the wrong time...and if your schedule is really screwed up, this may be so. Try going tanning or something during the day... sunlight really helps melatonin decrease. Then at night, take the melatonin supplement. It does help and it has been proven. 4.) This is going to sound corny... but I am literally ADDICTED to my special "sleep" cd. It REALLY helps. It was made specifically for sleep, it's like certain sounds, mostly classical music. But what your brain does is hear it even when you're sleeping... it really does help. Look for one online. They probably have them in stores too. 5.)When all else fails, it's medication time! Seriously... I don't like medications that make me feel groggy the next day. So far Remeron has been working magic... and it's like 2 birds with one stone... it's for anxiety and sleep! (anti-depressant) also not severe side effects like SSRI's. 6. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH... EXERCISE!!!!

A lot of people complain about their problems yet don't put their full effort into trying to fix them....If you really put your full effort into trying to beat this, you can do it! Good luck!

I don't have the same issues as you have, but closer to Sial where I will sleep really, really crappie for a few months, and then pass out like no tomorrow for a month of pure bliss, despite it has been becoming rarer and rarer of this even happen as of late. Heh. Even to the point that I did NightQuil myself. =/

Little tricks that might work, it does for me, not that I have your full blown problem.

1) Don't drink soda!!!
2) Heat up some Milk
3) Tea, long it's decaffeinated
4) Set a normal sleeping time (If possible)
5) Read a Technical Manual of a subject you don't like. =)

Edit: Scratch the "often" part. I'm always lonely at night :C

I don't like taking medication to make me drowzy either.. Pretty much the same reason you do. Plus I hate forcing myself to sleep. I'll sleep when insomnia wants me to sleep.

September had some really good points. EXERCISE, sunlight, all that stuff... nice post.

2 completely different subjects: Insomnia, aka wanting to sleep and wanting to wake up to a new day but not being able to even if you try, and then there's not wanting to sleep because you don't want to wake up to your life, or whatever you call it. Or wanting to stay up because you relax. Idk. But in which case... is a whole 'nother problem. And is what i'm suffering with.

insomnia, or any sleeping problem is specific to the individual, find whats triggering it and go from there.

Used to have it VERY often. But now I only have it from time to time. One method I use when I can't sleep is when I lay down, I like the picture eternal emptiness beyond my walls. Just nothing. No air, no city, no problems, no traffic or even Earth or universe. Just telling myself my room is the only thing in existence.

The thought of being in my own little universe is oddly calming. So, yeah. Meditation, basically. :3

I think it helps to accept that you will die one day. My problem was I was afraid I'd die in my sleep and felt like I had no control over it cuz I'd be sleeping, so I'd be afraid to fall asleep and just lie there not letting myself fall asleep. Eventually, I just said, well, I'm going to die some day anyways. I might as well get some rest.
