The Autistic Me

Did anyone see this programme the other day? You can see it at BBC iPlayer - The Autistic Me if you're in the UK, unfortunately no way at the moment if you're somewhere else. It's worth a watch.

I don't have it, but I did recognise some parts. The bits with the guy failing to fit in with other people his age at a party and the other guy's first date were almost too hard to watch for me, they were too close for comfort. Funny seeing how my first date will look before it's even happened.

I watched it! I did feel a bit emotional watching the 15 year old kid with autism, since i could totally relate (tbh he didn't even strike me as being very autistic, apart from some anger management issues lol...). I also felt a bit angry at his whole family, his brother was so critical and his parents seemed complete restrictive, like they wanted to control every aspect of his life (did you see when his mum took away his 'love' letter to prevent him from escaping supposedly :O)

But yeah, it was a bit close to home for me as well... still worth the watch though!

As a diagnosed aspie myself, I may find this interesting.

brilliant documentary......big oli seemed a lovely bloke....tom seemed so innocent looking like you could see the hatred of his parents controlling behaviour on his face i think all this kid needs is some acceptance and a good support network......the other boy(who's name i have forgotton) seemed very warm and charming....i really hope these boys find what they are looking for in life.
