what is the meaning of life?

I was bored so I thought id put the question out. Why do you think we are here and what do you think we are here to achieve?

To make what ever of it we see fit to make. have the odd blip now and again, get on with it, move on, make friends influence people and have fun without hurting people along the way, and do many crazy things and have kids so you can tell them stories of when you did this or did that. etc be as random as possible life is not AtoZ its AtoBto6toBtoAtoYto7to0toC as random as possible if you look at my web site the link below it will tell you. (its being over hauled at the min so the basic site is up) but thats my meaning of life.. possibly

I think life is all about love. I think love is the key. Love is where all the great mysteries lie, and I think our purpose is to discover what love is all about and to love other people as best we can, and to love ourselves and the world and everything in it! It's all about love I reckon.:)

I doubt think the universe has built in meaning. The meaning comes out of the will of its living creatures. So you decide! Hopefully you're inclined to do good rather than evil, but I only say that because it benefits us to do so. It's interesting to imagine a species somewhere out there that thrives on hatred instead of love.

The meaning of life is to start and finish, the middle part is the study of one’s own existence. As humans, we have this gift thanks to our complex brain. To anything else in the universe, it’s just background noise. We will all return to nothing someday, we will be part of the universe without question, will just be. I find it fascinating that in 4 billion years time when the sun goes nova, that my particles will still be present. With the deadening of the solar system, and then its return to nebulae, I will still be part of it.

That's right. Rocks don't have meanings, the atoms that comprise my bones have no meaning, so why should my brain and mind? If we don't have a given meaning by the Universe, then we have to choose the meaning we give to ourselves.

The universe doesn't know nor cares what it's atoms are used for. There is no difference to the universe if the atoms that make up your body make up your body, or are just a pile of slob on the ground. If you had your hand cut off, that would be a big deal to you because it's your hand, but to the universe, it's just matter moving around as matter usually does.

the only obvious reason for us to be here is 'cos were driven to perpetuate our existence by the obvious evolutionary urges.

We are consious, we are inteligent, we are driven to learn about our environment, we pass our knowledge on, we want to live and want our children to live. We are also made the same stuff as the rest of the universe, we ARE part of the universe, the universe through us is aware of its self, it is consious, intelligent, has a will to survive because we are a tiny fraction of the universe.

ultimately the universe now has a will to survive.

realisticly, in the "now" what can we do with our current knowledge and lazy, short sighted mind set? we cant save even our own planet, our selves and the other life on our planet from global warming, pointless wars, famin, the list goes on but i think we are making progress.

im sure if you went back 1000 years and showed our current technology to the wrong people in the wrong way you'd be killed for witch craft lol. my point is, in 1000 years we have progressed so much we wouldnt recognise our selves. Or they would be so shocked by what we can acheive that we would appear supernatural to them.

so if we could see our selves in say, a billion years from now, we could be in a way, gods.

or maybe we'd be just dead but hey lets look on the bright side :)

The meaning of life?

Sometimes it's a chicken,
And sometimes it's a chair.
And sometimes it's a slice of cheese
Suspended in the air.

I don't think there is a uniform meaning, apart from replication of the species. Does there need to be? We each make our own meaning for living, and it's up to each of us to work out what suits us and to start doing it.
