the thought is always more hindering than the action
once you face your fear you've got nothing to lose although it's really hard if you got a condition like sp....sometimes it is not as simple as that.

Yeah i think that's true, thinking about it too much makes it worse so it's better to try not to focus on it.

I don't like the idle chitchat either, or the mirrors but i do like getting my hair washed. It's like getting a head massage, feels awesome :)

I hated it because i had long hair and they trimmed it. So yeah, i haven't went since. Its grown alot, its gotten well past my waist :p

Ha! This is so me.
I can't stand the hair dresser for two reasons:
1. I have fine but thick curly hair and people are always yanking it to get the tangles out Ouch!
2. Hairdressers love to talk. And I don't.

So in other words I sometimes trim my own split ends but otherwise I just let it go long.

Haha yes same here thequietone! I think they know me by now and that I might mumble a few things but I'll tend to shut up. :D It would be much easier if there wasn't a mirror in front of me cos I get very self-conscious about that...argghh

Yeah, I always get anxious when I have to go get my haircut. I especially hate calling in for an appointment. I like better to just go as a walk in. I'm also just always terrified that they're going to cut my hair too short. But I just have to keep telling myself that it's hair and it will grow back.

Like most things I think the first time is the hardest, it took me years to work up the courage to go to a Barbers, I was always afraid I wouldn't make myself clear and they would cut to much off or something like that. But I finally made a choice to go and now I don't have any problem with it, The Barbers aren't that talkative they are usually eager to get onto another customer and I have no problem with that.

i love getting my hair done. same with other beauty treatments such as facials, manicures, massages, etc. ... but sitting there & having to deal with all the "small talk" & questions about myself ... is extremely uncomfortable. :(

I always do or say really stupid things because so worked up about getting my hair cut. A hairdresser asked me what I was doing that day, and I told her I'd go shopping, go to uni for a while, maybe see a movie etc. Then she stared at me like I was crazy and said "...I mean, with your hair".

A couple of weeks ago I went to a place I'd never been. The guy put his hand out to take my bag, so it could be put out of the way, but I thought he was trying to shake my hand, so I grabbed it and shook it . He laughed a bit but by the end of the appointment he seemed annoyed that I wouldn't speak and he burnt my head with the hairdryer because he was trying to get it over with so quickly.

I just go my hair cut again a few days ago. The girl cutting it was nice and I was doing just fine. Then she asked me a question (where do I work?) and I didn't answer because I didn't know she was talking to me because I am only 15. Then I realized who she was talking to and blushed because I just sat there.. she said I looked older than 15 and that's why she asked me in the first place. But after that incident everything went fine and I talked to her some. And I felt good about my hair afterwards.. all nice and soft.

I hate going.
I have hair that reaches my bum, I can almost sit on it. So whenever I go to get it trimmed, the woman plays with it for about half an hour, saying "Oh lawd, isn't is goooorgeous?! : O", before actually getting anything done.

It's frustrating.

The main reason I have a very short buzz is so that I can do it at home, myself. I haven't been to a barbershop in two years. It's saved me a lot of anxiety.

lol typical hair salon. The one in my village I used to go to would basically have a meeting whenever someone came in. After 3 appointments I was like **** this and just started cutting it myself.
But Oh lawd your hair is goooorgeous lol :D

I have low self esteem anyway so I dont like the way I look, But when you have to stare at a mirror and say if you like it or not, it makes it worst!
My hair looks really crap afterwards anyway as I just say yeah that will do just to get out of the place.
I've recently just had my haircut and I was kinda pleased with it, as my mums freind did it at her house

I thought I was the only one that gets terrified about going to the hairdressers. I am glad I am not alone. I only go twice a year cos I can't cope with going more often. I always make sure that I go to the ones where you don't have to make an appointment just go in and wait, otherwise I would be worrying over it for days before going. When I am sat in the hairdressers waiting to get my hair cut, sometimes the wait is around 1 ahd a half hours and I am sat there physically shaking i'm so terrified of what they are going to think of me. I always get asked so many questions its horrible. Why cant I just be left alone can't they see I am terrified. :(

I've only been to a barbershop once in the last 7 years. My parents cut it for me. Before that, I was a kid and they never tried talking to me. And 2 months ago when I went, the barber couldn't speak english. So it came as a shock to me that everyone here hate going to the barber.

Yes, I never go. The combination of having to make conversation while being infront of a mirror is awful. I'm too shy to even make eye contact with myself in the mirror. pathetic, hence long hair.
