Out of curiousity, are you on meds? I'm just interested to see how many are on meds.

I've tried xanax and klonopin a few times, but it didn't really help, just made me sleepy. I've never taken anything on a daily basis though. To be honest, psychiatric medication scares the crap out of me.

I'm on Klonopin and just started Paxil. I've taken quite a few other ones like Paxil, but I like it the best..actually it's the only one I like. Being on medication scares me too; I wish I didn't feel like I had to take it.

I was taking medication for about a year... loved it, I could talk to ppl more and I wasn't depressed I actually felt normal it seem like I was numb to all negative feelings. I was getting on with my life pretty smoothly untill the medication stop working, I think I got immune to them.

voted tried, but no benefits

ditto

For me therapies worked and I'm far better than I used to be, meds made no impact whatsoever, though I was not on anything heavy as in the UK they rarely prescribe anything like that just for SAD or Panic disorder

Possibly because they are intended to change the mind\consciousness\whatever.

I think people are more afraid because of all the negative stigmas attached. Therapy is also intended to change the mind/consciousness, & that works for some people, but not for all. A lot of people need medication & if people need it, they should take it.

I am not. Just bought Piracetam and started taking it, but then I came across some article where someone is saying it caused him brain fog.. so I better stopped. I really don't know if I should take it or not.

very true in the case of other mental illness but does the OP mean meds are needed for just social anxiety? As he posted this in the social anxiety medication forum.

I don't really understand what you were asking/saying, but I'll try to answer.....

I think he probably posted it in the Social Anxiety Medication forum because he has social anxiety & wants to know if others who have social anxiety are taking meds for it. Social anxiety is a mental illness, just like any other, & a lot of people can be helped by meds. Therapy doesn't work for everyone (it hasn't done a thing for me).

What I meant is that something like bi-polar or schizophrenia are illnesses where medication helps with chemical imbalances in the brain. Social anxiety does not fall into that category as it's just a behavioural disorder, I was wondering if the OP meant people with "just SA or anxiety" or was incorporating people with all kinds of illnesses treated by meds.

There are many medical professionals & researchers, pharmacologists etc who would disagree with (or have serious doubts about) the underlined text.

yes I'm aware of the wide range of views but it is more widely held view that SAD is more of a learned behaviour than anything else.

It seems like he would have posted it in another thread if he hadn't meant it for just social anxiety.. or maybe he wouldn't have posted it at all. SA isn't just a behavioral disorder, though. I've been dealing with this since I was a toddler & it's certainly not just a behavior. Behavior's can be stopped & it's usually not hard to stop them, either, so it seems no one would have it if that were the case.
