Anyone worried about nuclear war?

I feel that there is nothing I can do about it so it's not really worth worrying over.

It's not a good thing obviously, but I'll rather worry about it when/if it happens.

No. And i have to fill the rest of the post cause the limit is 10 something....i did'nt really read it all... lmao

I fully embrace nuclear war. Not saying that I support the idea, I just wouldn't have a problem it's that's what this miserable planet came down to. At least it would fill our boring lives with at least a few days of excitement before we reach our eternal resting spots.

Technology will inevitably be our downfall, whether its nukes, biochemical warfare, or artificial intelligence exceeding the intelligence of the humans that created it. There are many more instances I didn't bother to mention in which technology could ruin us. The day is coming much sooner than later. 2030 is a good estimate. Have a funfilled 20 years people, because thats about all we've got left.

Peace

Does anyone worry specifically about nuclear war, getting nuked, or living in a radioactive aftermath?

No, no, and no again. The Cold War is over but it still seems like our governments need a boogey-man, or a scary, invisible threat.

No current government will use nuclear weapons against someone else (Iran & North Korea are too fixed on holding onto power over their own people) and a terrorist network would not have the capability to set one off. I have enough faith in the security services to pick up on something that big and stop it.

The biggest threat to people these days is random terror attacks, relatively small but deadly attacks. And disease/infection.

No, but I do worry about biochemical warfare.
That's a lot more scary to me.
And u can't tell me that some of these diseases weren't created (swine flu, AIDS, etc).

You are making a lot of assumptions:

You assume that some event or events will happen that will be beyond all diplomacy, you assume that the marching forward of technology is inheritance bad or leads to bad things, you assume artificial intelligence will be evil and the more intelligent it gets, you assume the more evil and you then assume the end of the world is very soon because of technology and then predict a date out of thin air.

You even say there are more ways that technology "could", hurt us, how scary, all these mysterious boogey man technologies. One sided thinking? I think so.

You make all of these assumptions and you don't have anything factual to back them up. It's pure speculation on your part.

I'm not picking on you, I'm just hopefully pointing out to people that such paranoid thoughts, broken down, don't have much backing them up.

What's keeping the nukes from flying? Well, why the hell would they fly in the first place? When was the last time a nuclear bomb set off for no reason??? Try to count them.

There is friction all over the World, so why not press the button? Mutual destruction and the trend toward more and more globalization. As nations rely more and more on one another, it doesn't make sense to blow it up and if they have nuclear weapons, it's suicide for yourself.

There's a reason why nations with the doomsday weapons never use them and there would need to be an unforeseeable event that bypasses all the avenues we have set up before we would to begin to use them.

Meh, the worst part about it is that we gotta take all the animals and basically everything on the planet with us. Planet was fine without us, better without us, SOO much better. Humans are better without themselves, gotta be the worst species in galactic history! I'd prefer nice and simple virus wiping us out, or maybe a simple zombie apocalypse that only affects humans.

If you're that worried, try this.

I used to spend ages every night freaking out about something destroying the earth. Now I just worry about getting a horrible disease. Good times...

But about your fear, I'd agree that it's better to tell yourself that if you can't control it you may as well not stress about it. Besides, I'd say that nuclear war is pretty unlikely given that the fallout would be enough to destroy whatever country set it off. 'Cutting off your nose to spite your face' on an enormous scale! I think even in todays world most people are smarter than that. :)

Neither Swine Flu or AIDS are man made. You're letting your imagination get the better of you.

My guess is that the earth will eventually take care of itself one way or another. Maybe a virus. Humans have gone too far and caused too much damage. Balance will have to be restored sooner or later like it always does and that does not bode well for humans since they are the cause of the imbalance.

I don't worry about the prospect of nuclear war. Rather, I'm thankful for the music, video games, and movies it's given us.

Of course if I had that shiny red button within reach I'd probably think about it all the time. But since it's out of my power, worrying about it won't do any good. :)

I fear that other people are so self-centered that they don't take into account the rights of others. Which can range from someone stealing or killing another person to some idiots nuking us all.
