So, my SIL had the idea to throw my nephew a birthday party (for today). They get the invites, and 4-5 kids are coming. I helped them get the decorations put up, clean the house, I personally made cupcakes, watched the kids while they did some other things in prep for b-day party.

SIL just HAD to go the a tai chi class this morning thus leaving my brother and I alone with the kids to get the house clean, get the decorations up, tend to the baby's needs, etc., oh and I bathed and dressed them this morning so they 'didn't have to' - that one's totally on me!

So SIL gets home about 30 minutes before the party is to start. I had planned on 'attending' - after all it is just going to be a few kids, not too bad. Well, my brother looked at me and said, "you can go upstairs, you don't have to stay down here for the party" - I know it was the 'option' of either staying or going...but the way he put it was like, why don't you just go upstairs, we don't need your service right now" kinda attitude.

So, here I am in my room, for a couple hours. yay me.

I guess it is déclassé to have the servants around when one is having a party...sorry it's just how I feel right now.

well at least I can catch up on homework.

i suppose they don't want to shatter the illusion they present to everyone else that they are the ones who are actually raising their kids

For some reason, your situation reminds me of the Cinderella story. The stepsisters and stepmom (i.e. your brother and SIL) get to go to the ball while Cinderella gets left behind. It's like your hard work is not being acknowedged.

I read your other post the other day about your SIL. She sounds like a real piece of work! She sounds like a show off!

If I were you I wouldn't help clean up after all the little monsters tear up the place. Go for a walk instead.
