what is there to do by yourself in a town with nothing?

I don't play much sports so I don't go to the park much, unless I want to run the track. There are no 'hang out places' around here. I don't even go out to eat much because I am vegan. The parks around here are not even parks just recreational centers. What do people do around here? Hang out at Wal-Mart? lol I'm afraid to just walk outside in my town because there is not much to see. If I want to go and take sun there's not even a place just to sit out and take sun. People say you need 3 hrs of sun a day, I dont even have time to take sun for 3 hrs! Not to mention it looks stupid, and this industrial lifestyle is not meant for that.

Maybe I dont know how to 'hang out' or how to 'have fun' or 'go out', I don't know what to do or how to do things in the city. Wtf it's not like there are theme parks around here or anything lol. not even any nature settings. "hey let's go the nearest factory or go walk the mall?" don't you need like.. SOME reason to be out walking anywhere, not just 'leisure'. makes you look like you are doing 'nothing' important.

I don't know how to 'socialize'.. as a human it's supposed to be one of the most natural things, nobody understands you if you don't know how to. What do people do!? Do they just stand around in some street, they go walking around, for what? What reasons do people do this for? The only reason I'd do it is for fresh air, or for taking sun, or sightseeing? What is there to see? nothing much I suppose. Do people go around deliberately smelling fresh air I dont think so. Am I not cool because I dont know how to 'kick it'? Because I don't know about what to do for fun, by myself? what the hell Im getting pissed.

well to be honest there isn't alot on offer, most people will go to the shops and look around or to friends houses, cafe, library ...

because most of the time people go to work or school and that takes up all their time then the weekends are your oyster and you either go out to a party or you see a film, eat at a restaurant, see a gig or stay home ...

the city is the place to go because its so active and there are sights to look at and people everywhere ..

i play basketball at the local courts alot ...

go to shops looking around!? what the hell lol. what is there like.. fun things to do for adults? is there like some sort of "adult play area" somewhere a huge adult sandbox? obviously not. Do people even have fun or is it just.. socializing or looking for sex?

"hey let's go stand around".

what the hell is that? do you have to snap your fingers a lot, wear sunglasses and look cool, come with a radio, wear a cool sports cap, to he back. hiking gear? look like a tourist or some.. gangster.

what do people do at clubs? dance!? wtf is dancing it looks so freaking silly. oh pick up sex partners? have a conversation over blaring music, in the dark with flashing lights enough to give people seizures.... do acid, ecstacy. drink, smoke. meditate at the bus stop. Look like some kind of loser that is looking for something to do, someone to talk to. People don't look for things to do. If you are a person, you dont go looking for things to do. If you do, that means you are a loser.

"let me go do a walking marathon around the city while people make fun of you for being lonely and walking ... around a freaking area people dont walk around by themselves".

what is a 'night out in the city?" what is "hitting the streets".

I'm afraid I'll look like a loser. Only people who can go out by themselves are freaking sex gods. and maybe rich people who want to risk getting robbed.

lol i, too, have absolutely no idea...

what do people do in nightclubs? why are they all dancing like zombies in a cage?

what is the point of getting drunk? why not just go to sleep instead?

what do people do in malls besides the arcade or the movies? do they spend all their time there eating or shopping? surely no one eats and shops everytime they visit the mall?

why do people walk in circles around the park when its obvious they are not exercising, and not enjoying the scenary, because their eyes are on their PSP and listening to their iPod?

these are things i may never understand...

lol these posts are actually quite funny and uplifting. I often laugh at the world and the people in it, and I think we above all other should be able to do so. These people are robots, but I think if thats how they have fun, that's fine... for them.

In the UK, the general pattern for 90% of people = mon-fri work 9-5, go home, watch TV, sleep. fri night = go out to bars then clubs & get hammered, go home and have sex with a random. Sat = go up the Town, walk around the shops aimlessly, go home, get tarted up, go out to bars then clubs, get hammered, go home and have sex with a random. Sun = do nothing, or general stuff like housework, wash car etc.

Obviously I'm generalising, but I can see exactly where you;re coming from. I realized from probably about the age of 12 that there's JS to do, which is why I started drinking and smoking weed all the time. It was a good and entertaining way to socialize and has been ever since.

The only times I 'go out' to do things are really one offs. So far this year, I can list them all:-

June: o2 wireless music festival in London, got hammered
July: visit to Camden Market in London, got buzzed on shrooms
August: Notting Hill Carnival in London, got hammered
September: Holiday to Gt. Yarmouth for a week, hammered every night
November: Watched fireworks at the local Town Park on the 2nd, Wedding reception at a pub on 5th, Watched band perform at local club on the 8th. Got hammered on all three of these nights.

This doesn't even equate to going out and doing something once a month, and most of the time I have to commute to London to do/see anything interesting, and I still end up getting high in some form so I can enjoy myself

Why not use the time you have in a more productive way?

When I was younger I bought a bass guitar and joined a band. We rehearsed a lot in garages, made some recordings and did some shows. We created our own world, our own amusement, we didn't really care about what the rest of the world was doing. We also made videos and films, purely for our own amusement. It was a fun way to pass the time and I made some really good friends too, people that I wouldn't have otherwise met.

If that idea appeals to you, buy a cheap second hand instrument, learn a few chords and place an advert in the local press...and see what happens!

If music isn't your thing, why not volunteer to do something useful and constructive to make your town a better place to live? There are volunteer programmes and opportunities all over the place that are crying out for people prepared to make a difference. You could meet some interesting and cool people which will make life seem like less of a lonely place. Even the most vibrant of places can seem unbearable when you have to go through them alone.

I actually bought myself a guitar but am kinda shy to play it in my apartment as the sound travels lol. Besides I have to study and I don't really have time to have "fun" either. I have decided I need to stop looking for "fun" and to find fun in the things I currently do, or just be productive and at the same time have fun. Instead of separating "fun time" and "productive time".

or whatever.

1- Nightclubs suck, its full of chavs, and they'd get their asses kicked if they picked a fight with me!

2- Getting drunk sometimes helps you forget about your problems (although tv does that too)

3- Shopping in a mall without a purpose (window shopping) is just attention seeking rubbish.

4- Psp is ok. But the ipod is a fashion accessory to show off to people!

I actually went for a walk yesterday. It was Friday after noon around.. 2pm. I thought people might look at me weirdly especially the younger ones since.. the younger ones don't usually just walk around here in my area especially during the weekends unless they are doing something deemed "important" or "cool". I guess they might think my area doesn't have much to do for fun, and consider the are where all the clubs and bars and all the "REAL weekend nightlife" are is the place to be. Not walking around some neighborhood which is no fun. So I think I may be made fun of. Not even in the park. The ONLY people actually that might do these things are people who are considered cool and have friends and stuff. They need not worry about their image because they have people they can trust in them. Who the hell hangs out at the mall? I was thinking of going there to hang out but I dont think it's such a good place. What's that for high schoolers/middle schoolers? It's better to walk around outside.

Anyway I have such a big fear of walking outside when there are many others around (but not as much as New York or somehwere you can just blend in with no problem). Its like the only people who walk around here are the old folks who get out for fresh air.

gay. I dont know... I feel like I can't just walk around here anytime, it has to be the right time, where it feels "ok" to take a walk. Otherwise I just might look like some loser who can't find anything important or good to do.
