UK Glycopyrrolate Users...

Hi guys this is my first post here. I've kinda been reading around for a while but finally decided to sign up.

I've pretty much always sweated more than most 'normal' people, however through my teens and growing up it was never really that bad. I am (or was) a very social person. I had lots of friends, was captain of my local and school football teams etc etc. Unfortunately I suffered an injury which was an indirect cause of me putting on lots of weight. My HH proceeded to get worse and so did the social complications which come along with that. I have since lost all that weight but guess what?... The HH continued getting worse (especially over the last 4 years).

It's got to the point where it has completely ruined my social life and pretty much made me fail my degree. I suffer with fully body sweating, usually after the lightest of physical tasks (I am by no means unfit as I run 10km on a regular basis), and in 99.9% of any social interactions. Going to a restaurant is impossible for me as I look although I have just been in the gym. Answering a question in a lecture results in me raining with sweat.

After doing a lot of research I found a lot of people have had success with Glycopyrrolate. It is widely available in America and Canada, however not so much so here in the UK.

I have done a lot of research and found numerous journal articles proving the use of Glycopyrrolate as a treatment for HH, and also a way for the GP to prescribe it (pretty much done his job for him). So I plan to go to him on Thursday with my research and pretty much beg him to prescribe it to me. This will save me having to buy it from Canada and pay the high import rates.

So for anyone taking Glycopyrrolate in the UK, I have some questions for you:

1. How easy was it to persuade your GP to prescribe it?
2. Have you had any success with it?
3. Did you have to suggest it to your GP or did they prescribe it off their own back?
4. Or did you have to get referred to a specialist to have it prescribed.
5. Is there any points I can make to further persuade him to prescribe it?

Thanks for reading :)

Hi there
To be honest my daughters dermatologist said there was nothing else they could do for her HH after all the prescribed lotions etc but because I went armed with info about glyco she happily wrote us a prescription for it. I get the feeling it us expensive so they are reluctant to give it out but tell them that is what you'd like to try and I doubt they will refuse you.We have had no issue with repeat prescription. She hasn't had great success with it but most people seem to. I think the trick is to defo take it on an empty stomach and wait about 4 hours before eating.
Our local dr didn't give it to us,it was a referral to the hospital. Also bare in mind we had to try everything else on offer first eg. Ionto, ionto with glyco, lotions, creams, other medication so I'm not sure if it's something they see as a total last resort. The whole process has probably taken nearly 2 years.
Good luck

Ukchick,

Thanks for your reply!

I have literally tired every over the counter solution for the problem with no success, bar sweatblock wipes, which are now only available in america if im not mistaken (I used on my face for 60% reduction, but couldn't afford to use over my whole body!)

I'm really hoping this wont be a long and drawn out process (knowing the NHS it will be though), I think I will resort to buying the medication myself to try it before waiting for two years! I will soon find out on Thursday!

Thanks again!

Hi, I'm not from the UK (I'm Canadian) but I've been having success taking Avert. I suffer from pretty much full-body HH, usually triggered by heat and anxiety.

What I found useful for Avert dosage is to take 2mg in the morning as soon as I wake up (so it's on an empty stomach). I can then take a lunch 2hours after. I will then take another 2mg 2hours later, then have a full meal 2hours after that. During this whole time it's ok to drink liquids though.

I've also had success taking just one 2mg pill per day.

Basically I find that if I time my schedule so I take Avert 2hours before eating and 2hours after eating, then I'm dry nearly 100%. I didn't have much success with Avert last year until I tried this schedule this year.

Also check out this thread, it's helpful: http://www.socialphobiaworld.com/glycopyrrolate-and-calcium-53592/

Good luck!
