trying to make friends online

So i joined this website to meet friends that are for girls only. I find it's almost like a dating site because i get nervous getting emails because it's hard for me to make friends. I dunno when its appropriate to ask to meet. I don't think I wanna ask so i'll just wait to see if someone asks me? I never met a friend from online before in real life. Do you think this is a bad idea? ::

Yeah, totally. Exchange emails for a little while before agreeing to meet because it gives you a chance to get comfortable around that person, and you can decide if they're being unscrupulous in any way.

It's not a bad idea, though, if that's what the website is for.
