I was diagnosed with social phobia in August 2011. I went to therapy once a week until May 2012, when I started feeling the need to go to therapy less and less, and I haven't had an appointment since June (of course my therapist said I can make an appointment anytime I need to talk to her).
It is strongly believed that I developed social phobia from being intensely bullied, harassed, and beat up during grade school, and intensified during middle school. It got to the point where I ended up attending a high school in another city 30 minutes away. Since then my family and I have moved to the city where my high school is (for multiple reasons) and love it here.
Since my freshman year (now a junior) I have seen myself improve so much. I'm able to do things I never would have dreamed of doing before.
I got to parties with my wonderful friends who I'm very lucky to have, go to concerts, eat out, spend more time with people, even those I don't know very well, I'm starting to participate more in school activities and sports, and I've noticed my anxiety and paranoia have gone down tremendously.
It does get better, and there is hope. I still have anxiety to some degree, but I strongly believe I can get rid of it if I just keep pushing forward and doing new things, because I've learned how great life can be. Don't give up, I believe in you!
