the topic of small talk is unimportant - the point of it is the connection between people

97% of interpersonal human communication in non-verbal

the small talk itself is just a vehicle for two people to interact and exchange gestures, glances, body language, posture, voice inflection, mannerisms, smell, touch, etc. that indicate to one another what they think of each other and/or what each other's relative position is in the social hierarchy

dogs and cats sniff each other's butts

we talk

that's all small talk is - human butt sniffing

That's a very interesting thought, and I think you're right. I am going to try to remember that the next time I feel like my small talk is boring.

This is terrible for me. My body language does not reflect how I really feel. It just gives people the wrong impression. It's more a reflection of my crazy neurotransmitters.

It doesn't make a difference. (believe it or not) I've been in extremely social situations for years, where there was nothing but small talk. In my case, it's more of a neuro-chemical thing.

I'm bad at this too. But i'm getting better, I just learned not to take the lead, and let the other person take control.

although... sometimes it's easier to make small talk with people who are shyer than i am. i dont know why
