If it were me I would not say anything to anyone. Confessing to every thing you've done wrong just brings a lot of negative attention your way. If they ask about it you're probably best to admit it but only because they will probably have some evidence already and there's no point in denying it. If they find out I would claim ignorance and say I didn't know it was wrong.

This is just what I would do if I was in a similar situation.

What you do wrong before you're trained don't count. I firmly believe that. I wouldn't mention it. If they ask you about it just say "yeah i did that but it was the day before i knew not to do it and i ain't done it since" that should do the trick. Besides, they have no way of knowing you did it unless you tell them. It'll be ok

Well they might contact ISP about it and found it who did it without knowledge of the OP. However I guess they need court order to do such thing.

I am expecting one of the following outcomes (or a variation thereof):
1) I am fired on the spot (not likely, but it could come about later, after an investigation, or something).
2) I am giving a verbal or written reprimand, and told not to do it again, or disciplinary action may be taken.
3) He thanks me for telling him, and, after I promise not to do it again, we all move on with our lives.

I am really hoping for #3.

I highly doubt they will make fuss about it when you told them the truth. Tho if you are on training then it's means you are still learning and they are about to give you a contract. I bet if you tell them it will be #3.

You're right: it's not worth the anguish you're putting yourself through. You made a mistake, one anyone could have made and no doubt many have—perhaps even your supervisors. If they knew about it and were inclined to make a fuss, they would have by now—bosses love to boss—and if an audit were to happen at some point in the future, they'd be looking for much bigger fish (e.g., embezzlement, serious misuse of resources), not so petty an offense as this.

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't this coming under unauthorized access (Computer Misuse Act 1990) ? I don't want to be picky but without permission of others (manager, supervisor, IT Manager etc) by all means he didn't had access to it and despite this fact he accesses it anyway. That's probably what he's talking about (whole investigation etc). Tho most of the companies now days are very serious of such activities and at some point it might raise some questions without doubt.

P.S The case with OP is that he memorise all of his mistakes and try to remember them which at the end results in over-thinking/overreacting. I would say: "You are new in work and have rights to makes mistakes especially if it's your first job, made mistake ? Just forget about it and move on." However that e-mail login which you did from the home would be worth mentioning to IT department just in case. :idontknow: what else to say.
