Hey I was wondering if when you talk on a speaker phone on the computer or something if it's how you really sound. To myself, it's like I have a deep loud voice, but when I hear a recording it's low as can be volume wise. ::eek::

I have tried this too. I feel like my speech is quite good and then I hear the recording and I sound awful. It sounds so different.

I sound like a man when I listen back.. A posh man, lol.

According to other people I don't though!

When you record sound with low-quality equipment, a lot of the frequencies of the real sound will get lost or distorted, which will cause part of this weird effect. I'm not sure how much difference there is in how we hear ourselves speak in our own heads and how others hear it. Part of it is probably psychological I would guess. I think that if you want to test your own voice accurately, you will have to use very good equipment, like from a recording studio.

I hate hearing my own voice. It sounds nothing like it does from my own perspective and freaks me out, ::p:

I used to think I sounded like a little girl until I heard a recording of my voice a while back. It was like who is this deep-voiced man talking? I was happy that I sounded somewhat normal. I know i sound shy and depressed, but at least my voice has bass compared to what i thought it sounded like. I pictured a high-pitched voice before.

So we make up our own voice in our head? :S

I hope I don't sound like I do on recordings. I found a tape recorder from 2 years ago, and sound so mousy! I can tell I'm uncomfortable and restrained(I was talking into a tape recorder by myself in my room, not natural, especially considering I was planning on listening to it 2 minutes later to see if I had a stupid sounding voice or not). And I recorded myself singing...*Shudders*
