Bear wit me on this,im sure some of u will get the idea.Imagine u have a close friend who has an extreme fear of clothes.Wut would u tell him to make him feel better? What would u really deep down feel he should do to overcome his fear? Now what do u tell urself about ur problem?

Well I don't thinK I would have a friend who was afraid of clothes. If someone has an extreme fear of clothes they wouldn't wear them, and would probably never leave the house. I would tell them to go get some damn clothes.

But the fact that he's afraid of clothes would mean that he can't just easily face his fear and wear clothes. He would have to build up his confidence first to overcome the fear. It's like, you can't solve the problem just by solving the problem. Otherwise there never would have been a problem. I'm not sure if that's what you're getting at though.

1. Unless they were born in a nudest colony, how would someone develop a fear like that?
2. I wouldn't tell that person anything. I'd run like hell as soon as I saw them.
3. What I tell myself about my problem, which is usually something like "drag your ass out there and say something", doesn't seem to work, so why is it even relevant?

I think I might maybe know what you could be getting at, but maybe you should use a less extreme example? I guess I could tell myself "at least I'm not nude", but I don't know if that would help anything.

wut im sayin is to IMAGINE a HYPETHETICAL SITUATION in which a close friend has an extreme fear of clothes. The resemblence of that to SA is being around people, like wearing clothes,is an irrational fear.I was tryin to make yall THINK wut wuld u FEEL ur friend shuld do to get over his, remember hypethetically, fear of clothes as u know his fear is irrational and well stupid. You would probly has some very rational, staitforward advice to give to him, right? Now u have an irrational fear of people, wut do u tell urself about how to deal with ur problem?Im also sayin is we judge less and give others more understanding than we do ourselves and we shuld treat our problem like we wuld think he shuld treat his.Understand?

Dude, There are processes which are under your conscious control, & then there are processes which are under your subconscious control.

For example, the process of digestion is not under your conscious control. So is your heart beat, so is your hair growth & the list goes on. Breathing can be controlled either way. Anxiety unfortunately is under subconscious control. Doesn't mean, we can't change it, we can effect it indirectly.
You can indirectly control these & your SAD by changing your food, meds etc.

Now Imagine the same guy with the fear of clothes having a deformed tongue. For normal people the tongue opens when they open their mouth. Now for this poor guy the damn tongue opens down his ass. Do you think he can 'will' his tongue out of his mouth. ( I couldn't resist :) )

I really like this.

Everyone with SA should do this mental exercise.

Do it.

Damn! I needed some humor!

But i think is a good idea trying to put our problem's in another person and see what it would look like to us, and what would we advise her/him if we found a person with SP, what could we do to help, etc... then compare that to our situation. Can be of great help so we can see our problem from a more objective point of view, just like if it wasn't our problem, but another one's.
