My (sadly deceased) grandmother came from Poland, but she came to England after the second world war. I've got nothing against Poland - i think the country's had a rough time, and that it's a nation of survivours. I've always wanted to visit Poland - maybe one day i will conquer my anxiety enough to get on a plane and go there.

As for antisemitism and homophobia etc. as you said, every country has it's share of intolerant people. Why Poland would have any more than any other country is beyond me.

Well compared to most people ive met, I'd say their very generous. The only encouter I had was with a polish family when I took my friend's friend home after the cinema and we stayed over for a while. I cant remember the right name for a sort of donut thing with jam in. For some reason the mother and aunts could'nt stop making these donut things as well as polish chocolate, I ate almost all I was given out of courtesy until I felt pretty sick.

Do you have ocd?

Well, if the will of showing the foreigners the truth is a symptom of ocd, then yes, I have it. :>

@Shinigami: the donut you're talking about is probably the "paczek" (the letter "a" has a nasal ogonek below it - you spell it more or less as "pow-chek")... ;)

Cheers

Yeah that is what I meant....

hey you know maybe you should lighten up a bit instead of going on about the "truth". Nobody is out to slander your country or people, as quite clearly people here have shown. I myself would also like to visit your country one day :)

Pretty much all of them i've met are awesome. Where i work, when we're short on staff we hire people from agencies - they're often polish and are always friendly, hard working etc.

Plus thinking back, poland helped massively in world war 2, especially in the battle of britain (wikipedia  ) so they deserve to be here tbh.

Rather good. I have a lot of semi distant cousins in Poland. Unfortunately I don't speak polish otherwise I might attempt to contact some on nasza klasa. I've started to learn some Polish though... like... Chciałbym piwo. Does that make sense :?:

no,i was talki generally; you can find a tons of sh-t on web,as much as in any other media - cnn for example or history channel.

on the topic,i know few polish people, and they are ok,stable, good catholics lol i would never mind to have some polish gf,tho there are even more beauties in other slavic countries.
....
if u are slavic, check out this link -->www.slovio.net .interesting, tho all our unifying processes usually fail

There was a Polish exchange student at my school, I remember he would always be like "Hi I am Adam, and I am Poland." He was pretty cool. That's all I really know about Poland...

I don't know much about Poland or Polish people, but at least they don't fly planes into American buildings or, through any other action, start an unnecessary fight.

and what is the point of this post?

I don't honestly know a lot about Poland, but I don't believe you can define a land and it's people as good/bad based upon nationality/geographical boundaries. There is good and bad everyplace you go. Ideally the leaders of a country are compassionate and treat their own people and others well... I think when the leaders are otherwise the whole country often gets tainted by that, but leaders don't represent the veiws of everyone in the country. I know that I would hate to be defined by mine, lol!

I used to teach at a Muslim school. Honestly, people are people. Yes there are some differences but we are all more alike than different. I actually got so used to my Somali kids that it eventually seemed odd to me to realize that my own children were going to be white. I think people just get affraid because they are ignorant, honestly... Or because they have a strong need to feel better than other people.
