Hey
Just thought i'd say hello:)..I think it's very interesting how we pass by loads of people in our towns/citys and think were all alone with our struggles but we pass by loads of other people who are going through the same thing too without knowing..This is why forums like this exist I guess.
I'm from Dublin myself just outside the city centre!
Just wondering what has been the most beneficial form of therapy for people here with social anxiety? or any other types of treatment that people have found worked even slightly for them? I'm so sick of always having relapses so with IFS therapy next year I hope to achieve something, it's my last attempt.

All the best :)
Saibh.

Hi and welcome to the forum :)
What is the most beneficial, I think it really depends on the situation and the person what works and what doesn't,
For me that worked best up to this point is cognitive behavioral therapy, yes I know it sounds bad being pushed to face your phobia again and again, but eventually I started to get a little better after some time of scourging.

Welcome to the forum Sabbathmc.
I also live in Dublin and suffer with SA. I was pretty bad about 10 years ago after first moving to the city after throwing college in. I sought help straight away as I couldn't even get on crowded bus without getting extremly anxious. Would go shopping but if a security guard gave me a sideways glance, I would feel really uncomfortable and anxious and leave the shop. I couldn't do anything.
Went to my GP and he told me about somebody doing CBT. I was one of the first Guinea pigs to undergo CBT in the city as it was just being rolled out among the professionals here.
I have to say it really got me over a hump. Managed to conquer my fear of getting on buses, shops and certain other "situations however every situation is different and I still have major difficulties e.g eating in avery intimate resturant (wouldn't even venture in as I probably would feel really uncomfortable!)
Managed to get a good part-time job and 10 years later I'm still in it though I have had very bad days in the place. Like you I still need to do a lot of work and have neglected my SA for a while.....feel like I'm slipping backwards too and would like to get on top of it again. :)
I would say that my job has been pretty therapeutic for me!
