Need to make a phone call....

ADVICE PLEASE!!!!!!!!

Sounds so darn simple, but it's really stressing me out. I'm trying to get an internship which I really NEED to get because it's practically the only one available near my school (and this is my last year so I need to do it!). I sent the place an email and the next day they called me, but I didn't answer my phone (of course) because it was a strange number and I suspected it might be them (I googled the number later to confirm it was them). And of course they didn't leave a voicemail so now I can't be sure what they were calling for... so I should call them back right? Right. But.... I CAN'T! I'm afraid they'll be busy and it'll be inconvenient that I called instead of waiting for them to call back, or they'll want to interview me over the phone or something...

SO... should I just wait for them to call again/respond to my email or should I just get it over with and call them already?

I'm really sorry to bother you all with these ridiculous problems, but I don't really have anyone else to ask (no one that really understands how stressful something so simple can be for someone like me, anyways)

THANK YOU!

These arent rediculous problems at all Magnolia,

you COULD send them an email just saying that you missed their call, and ask them to give you another call at a certain time on a certain day...that way you would know for sure its them at that specific time.

If you DO send an email requesting this, i suggest waiting untill later in the day....make it look like you didnt noticed they called untill after hours. That creates the logical course of action to email.

I know some may see this as avoidance. but as far as im concerned, why put yourself through hardship if theres an easier way to achieve the same goal?. Thats just my opinon though.

Do what works best for you.

So I finally called yesterday... I was shaking like a leaf and I can't even remember now what I said, but it turns out they already have 2 interns and can't take any more. If I had had the guts to call earlier in the summer I probably would have gotten it. Frustrating... :-/ Thanks for your help though. I probably wouldn't have ever called had I not posted about it!

:( im sorry to hear that Magnolia,

Dont let this discourage you. You may not have gotten it, but you still made the effort and still called them, even though it was agonizing for you. this is a big step. You did really well.

There will be another opportunity. just keep trying, and keep posting! :).

While it is impossible to tell if this really would have been the case, lessons like this is often important for phobias. When this happens enough (and it has for me), then it gets so frustrating after a while that it almost becomes inevitable that you will one day make a decision to not let your phobia control your life, and when that happens you are free. Like learning to walk, it may be difficult to take the first few steps, but once you get it over and done with then you may never have to face the same problem again.
