Lucid Dreaming?

Does anyone know how exactly you can lucid dream and control your dreams? I've read sites about lucid dreaming, but is it something where you make up in a dream journal before dreaming or is it recalling events after you dream and write it on the dream journal? I would like to experience this method, but what are some tips I can actually do to create a happy living world in my dream and realize I am in it.

From what I've read, every morning you wake up you try to recall your dreams as best as possible, then write down everything you remember. Eventually you'll become lucid when you dream. I keep meaning to try it out.

There's also something about reading over your dream journal, recognising patterns.

I tend to just naturally be lucid sometimes, but would like to do it more. I used to read a lot about dreaming. I know, and have noticed in my own dreams, that if you look at a clock more than once, it won't say the same time twice. And light switches don't work either. So while your awake, check clocks and light switches, and say to yourself they work, so I'm awake. Then you're more likely to do this while dreaming. When they don't work, you'll know it's a dream.

I used to lucid dream all the time as a kid. I'm not quite sure how I did it but I did find that I could do it more easily if I dreamt while well-rested. For instance, woke up on a Sat morning and went back to sleep instead of getting up. I would also think about it a lot, especially before bed. I also used to try to recall all my dreams in the morning, often I could recall 5 or 6.

I want to lucid dream so badly but couldn't seem to do it for some reason. I've had lucid dreams in the past but they don't last long. Even when I kept a dream journal and did frequent reality checks, I still couldn't lucid dream. I'll probably try again later.
