Life is bullshit

Everything about life is bullshit, dating, people, finding happiness, all Bullshit. We are all programmed to believe that we have to fit into certain norms to be popular, successful, happy, etc.. People equate money and looks to love and marriage. I am through being someone who should fit into those f**king norms. Because I sure as hell not handsome, have money, have success. If people would stop looking at their damned cell phones for a few moments, they will clue in to what is happening to our world. GIve up on happiness, love, enjoyment. All it leads to is dissapointment and heartbreak.

Once you accept that life is meant to be endured, rather than enjoyed, you can actually start to enjoy it again. You learn to live in the moment and appreciate the little bits of beauty between the bitch-slaps.

There is a difference between Endured and being trampled and run over. Sure, everyone goes through rough patches. But when all you know is constantly dealing with rough times in your life, you know nothing different. It makes people feel hopeless. I feel that way, I don't know what its like to feel life as a blessing, when its been a curse for decades...

When you stop chasing happiness and turn your attention to other things, happiness will come and sit softly on your shoulder.

I find enough happiness and enjoyment in life to keep going, and I have had life throw some real trash at me.

I've heard the same thing for over 20 years, you try and forget about it, but it keeps coming back.
As to why its been like this for me, your guess is as good as mine. I haven't been perfect, but I have followed all the rules, been polite, tried to be a good human being, but it appears the only way of getting anywhere is being a complete douche bag asshole who breaks all the rules, and is a lousy human being. That is not in my nature, but yet i keep getting screwed over because of it. Is that enough?

I call it fate. Our lives are determined by circumstances out of our control, long before we are even born. That's not to say our luck can't change; it's simply a matter of timing for some of us.

Exactly, there are many things within our control that we can influence, but many factors that affect that influence, that are completely outside of our influence.

But what happened, exactly, to make you feel this way? What events took place in your life that were very unfair to you despite your best efforts?

Heya Pug. Let me clarify my meaning. From my perspective, nothing--with a capital N--at all is in our control. We have an illusion of free will in that we think we can make independent decisions, but those decisions, even the most minute ones, are a result of every, single action that has occurred in this universe before, up until the beginning of time (and whatever came before it).

Our lives are a result of a web of interlinking causal chains back to the beginning of time. Even me moving my fingers across this keyboard right now is a result of that. Scratching my nose is a result of this.

What I mean by "timing" is that luck can happen at any point in time for any individual based on who they are and where they fall in the matrix of causal relations. An example of this might be an author that has struggled their whole life, but who eventually achieves fortune and recognition in old age. Or someone that has struggled and wins the lottery. Or, in lifesnotfair's case, eventually overcoming their streak of bad luck. On the opposite spectrum, it might be someone that has a continuous, seemingly indefinite streak of good things happening to them, only to suffer extreme misfortune ten years into their streak.

I like your post and for a large part of it, agree.
But some things are within our control. If I am destined (so to speak) to win the lottery, but dont get out of bed and buy the damn ticket, I'll cause the time line to in effect 'alter' and change things. That is altering the time line based on my actions. Those actions are within my control.

I guess I'm saying nothing is pre determined, and yes, our lives to this point ARE built upon everything that has happened in the past.

Absolutely.

But 'fate' and 'destiny' is BS. Why? Because what you do today affects EVERYTHING in the universe in the future.Just how, we'll never know. Just as you have described, everything in the past has been built on previous happening before that point in time. And so is the future effected by what you do today.

Anyway, You're not going to win the lottery if you dont buy that ticket. Your not going to get that job if you dont apply. These things are within our control and can effect our personal lives immensely. On a universal scale.. perhaps not so much.

I follow you. Though I still must disagree. Let me try to further clarify my point. When I talk about "fate" I am not referring to it in some spiritual or religious way. I am referring directly to the objective nexus of causal events. I agree with you that what we do today affects everything that happens in the future, just as how everything that has been done has affected us today. The fact that I ate yesterday has provided me with enough energy to eat today, and the fact that I will eat today will provide me with enough energy to eat tomorrow. The logic of causal chains can be applied to anything.

Buying that lottery ticket is a result of a chain of decisions and external effects on your life that eventually led you to buy that ticket. Applying to that job is a result of a chain of decisions and external events on your life that eventually led you to apply for that job. Scratching my nose is a result of a speck of dust carried by the wind that blew a gust across my path, which was caused by a collapse of an iceberg in the arctic, which was caused by climate change, which was caused by the industrial revolution, which was caused by the discovery of steam power and machine tools.

Webs like this exist all the way back through time to the big bang, up until our present day, to the second. And what we do right now will also affect the future in the same way. In this sense, our fates ARE predetermined, by the very virtue of our actions and decisions being directly dictated by what has already happened before. This is also known as the butterfly effect or causal determination. It is a chain of events and decisions that all affect, and actually dictate, who we are, have been, and will become.
