I am Thankful.

I am starting to realize that it's not all dismal and darkness in my life. There are rays of light that come in from time to time that make me very happy to be alive. They don't come very often, regrettably, but they do appear when I least expect them to. Like tonight I was having a not-so-good day, it was so bad that I wasn't even going to watch anime, but then I thought, no, anime might cheer me up and snap me out of my depressed state of mind. Well, it turned out that it did. I saw a fight scene between Sakura (The main female lead in Naruto) against a puppet master foe (Sasori). That fight scene was so action packed that it gave me goosebumps like 5 times! :D Also during one of the intros to the anime I really got into the beat and started dancing around my room. Which makes me want to say, if you are feeling anxious and unsettled, jump up and down over and over so that your blood gets pumping in your heart. It will elevate the anxiety almost rapidly.

I kept a gratitude diary a while back but neglected it due to schoolwork. I should get back to it.

I'm thankful for manga, anime, music and other good stuff that cheer us up in tough times.

I will give that a try, at home only though. It would look weird if I suddenly do it in class.

True. Getting your heart rate elevated is a good way to beat the blues. If it's good weather outside, going for a walk is the best. It's not strenuous, you're getting vitamin D, you're outside the confinement of your house, and, if you have natural environments around you, you can listen to birds tweeting and leaves crunching under your feet. :)

It's good to realise that there are always some good things in your life, even if it does seem dark and abysmal.

I also find crying elevates anxiety. The hard part is welling up your emotions to actually want to cry. It has been getting a little easier, but I still struggle getting "into" it. Actually crying doesn't have to be the case, even if you make your eyes water, and let the tears drip down your face, it will make you feel better almost instantly. This is something I just discovered recently, so give it a shot!

You really like anime don't you? I'm glad you feel thankful and have something that will make you happy even for just a while. I wish I could genuinely say the same.

I learned that you never know what you are passionate about unless you give it a shot, no matter what it may be. My friend who has watched literally hundreds and hundreds of animes, always tried to get me into them, but I always had my back up in a sense, like I would like, "I love anime, but I don't have the time to sit through series after series." That was an excuse that I made up so that I could continue living my procrastinating life. That and I often complained that Japanese subs were too hard to follow while watching an anime. To this day I can watch anime in Subbed, and watch 100s of episodes worth of anime monthly. So yea, I'm obsessed. ^_^;

Find what you love to do. Drawing anime pictures increased my love for watching and reading anime/manga. If it wasn't for drawing. What is it that YOU enjoy doing? Listening to music? playing guitar? drawing/painting? watching horror movies or whatever genre you are interested in? Everyone is naturally talented at something. Sometimes it's just hard to discover what they are. Like you may have been good at something as a kid, but never thought to stick with it to develop it. I say get back at it, whatever it is, and gain confidence through your talents!

I grew up with a buch of anime, I LOVE anime as I said before ( I even still have Yugioh card dueling battles with my brother t 16, :eek:mg: ) hahaha, and Iike a lot of other things too but they`re not my "obsession" or passion. I don`t know if I have any one thing I REALLY love but I`ll keep an open mind. :)

First post on any forum .... heart rate increasing...

This place seems like a good start for me as I've been dealing with Social Anxiety for 10 years now, the past 3-4 years I have been home bound as it's my comfort zone. I am thankful for people here that will listen when no one else will , the community is great from what I see so far ! I am thankful for hockey , it's a game that really puts all my worries away for 2 1/2 hours , also I enjoy reading the Lee Child series. I am thankful for a strong family bond that understands my condition but doesn't treat me different because of it. Thanks for reading and MikeyC I agree 110% with you , it's great to go out for a walk and listen to the smaller things in life and appreciate them. As for Manga , I've never really watched it so I can't knock it , there's something for everyone in this world and I'm happy that Manga makes you feel great QuietGuy11

Hey HockeyFan! I actually love Hockey, too! But I don't watch it nearly as much as my dad does. I think it's important that we set our minds to things that bring us a sense of joy and peace because the mind will only wander into the past, and sometimes the future, if it's left alone for too long. It really needs to be preoccupied, which is why it's very important to be mentally, as well as physically, active. :) Sorry for not replying to your message sooner. I didn't realize I had these new comments until tonight. And thanks, Manga really puts me in a positive mood!

TreeBones, if you ever want me to suggest some good animes for you to watch, just let me know :)

Aw it sounds like you're realizing what I'm realizing. All in all, you appreciate things the same amount. For instance, when you're deprived, little things mean more. This applies to when you're isolated, depressed, anxious... And when you are functional, you actually may appreciate things less but there is more out there in the world to appreciate, so it is even in a way. All apart from how you feel about yourself. Either way, your post was enlightening and adorable in that positive way. Glad you had a good turn around day! :D

I never look for anime on my own because I'm always busy with school work, babysitting and don't want to waste time so yeah that would be great actually :)

I think of all the good moments to come, and that they are there, just sometimes it's hard to see them at the time. They don't always make themselves visible or transparent because they are like precious stones or fine gold. You have to mine like a mad man in order to find just 1. But when they come, this peace comes over you that is just amazing. It's like a calmness of the soul, and in it anxiety is wiped away clean. When I am having it rough, I think of those moments to come, and how great they make me feel, and it helps me endure through the darkness. It's like what my friend told me the other day, he said: You can't appreciate a good day unless you have a few rainy ones. So true!

What is your favorite genre? Do you like comedy? Slice of Life? Magical girl? Romance? Or genres that mix genres? A fun one that I liked that's only like 12 or 13 episodes (if I remember correctly) was Yuyushiki. I'll give you a little summary. It's about three friends, I forget their names, they all start with Y. They are in a school club that researches new things every day. Like they will just randomly decide on a subject to google search and will learn about it. It's kind of like a research club, but it's very comical and the characters are super cute. Give it a try sometime! Or if you want to watch a special that's only like 2 episodes long, a good one is Dragon Half!

I like things from Azuanga Daioh (which is cute and funny) , Samurai Champloo,(which has some fighting in it but it's funny) to The Twelve Kingoms (which is a bit more serious) Oh Helsing is another good one, my brother got me into that. .. I just realized this isn't really helpful. Ah I'm sorry. let's just say I like all genres, mixed as well. :)

Those are some good animes you've mentioned. Another one to add to your list if you plan on getting into an anime sometime is Sword Art Online. I'll give you a quick summary: It's about a guy (Kirita) who ends up getting stuck in a virtual reality online game. The only way to get back to reality is to beat the game. But if he dies in the game then his real self in the real world dies as well. It's very action packed, and all the characters are very likeable. I definitely recommend it. :)
