How Long Has SA Been in Society?

Could there be a factor in causing this to do with TV?

What about the internet?

Everyone sees this stuff as a luxury, and wouldn't want to be without it.

I can say for sure that my life was a whole lot better when I became a student and stayed completely away from TV, never interested, at all, although I was stuck to it in my youth. Things was so much better around people, every day, living with them, studying with them, drinking with them and going out with them...

I know I had SA early in life but it wasn't so apparent when you have 'someone to bounce off' and laugh with. I've grown to hate people. I hate people who are consistently happy, laughing and smiling. I just can't see any cause for that. But I was.

I don't know how much automation has changed lives. Staying at home, typing this, when I used to be out in the sunshine at a BBQ.

The way I'd put the internet: all kinds of ways to use it - check the weather, news, etc. It all kept getting better, but I truly can't come up with one particularly special website (this is a regular one - I admit) but with the network in place, I had hopes for more. Content is what matter - books, music, music, movies... video games... whoo.... that was 16 years ago.

If this world had no electricity or cars, life might be better (there would be arguments!) but ignoring tech, social life might be different. The era you live in makes the difference, and how you react to it.

I had a social life! I had a love life! Where's that all gone? That was 17 years ago, when it was 1994, and I was 17!! ::p:

Technology will improve, the more I reckon social phobia- affected people will grow. As more people spend time on the internet, and less time on interacting with people, the more of us will have communication problems.

I for one, wish I had not spent years alone playing Worms, Lemmings or Raptor. But instead going out and interacting with the other kids... I may not have had the troubles I have now.

I grew up without TV, computer and video games, had friends and sisters to play with, and still have SA
I would think that the cause is probably more complicated than that...
The screens may contribute to keep SA people stuck into it though
But when you think about it, it keeps pretty much Anyone from doing... more relevant things
Just my opinion

Yeah I think in todays society there is a lack of a strong drive to be part of certain groups or society when you get so much easy gratification from technology.

In th past, you were bored out of your mind unless you literally went to go play with friends down the street. I remember when I was around 12, the entire neighborhood would set up games like steal the flag at someone's house and everyone was invited as the word got around (before cell phones). It was fun, it was social and you felt a part of something.

Not saying that its the only cause of SA, and I'm sure SA has been around a very long time, but I think it does make it easier to focus on the pain of social interation when you can easily just hide and use technology.

I don't think technology has anything to do with it. I would say SA has always been around. Technology might have the effect of making it easier to live with for some in that they don't have to leave thier homes to interact, whether that's good or bad I don't know.

it's been around forever, just like homosexuality.

Most people have some form of anxiety, so really we just have the more serious symptoms of SA.
