Most human holidays are cruel, like christmas for example. A lot of animals are slaughtered, christmas trees destroyed etc. That´s why I find hypocritical that it is supposed to bring joy to the people and the message "happy turkey genocide day" is a good reminder of this hypocricy.

I am sorry some people find this wording cruel and offensive, because exactly the opposite is true!!

I don't think it's any more cruel than any other day that we consume, which is every day. There are a lot of things that have their basis in something terrible, but that doesn't mean the meaning we bring today, us that that didn't have a hand in the origins, can't be an incredibly positive one. There is a spirit of giving that surrounds the holiday, at least in this city, and that's something the naysayers would have you forget.

The Christmas tree's and slaughtered animals bring joy as well though. The Christmas trees are coming from tree "farms" and are not destroying nature or destroying our woods and forests. And everything dies eventually, whether it be this Christmas or 100 years from now I doubt makes much difference to the tree.

As far as slaughtered animals, that happens everyday whether it is a holiday or not. Yes, around thanksgiving there are far more turkeys killed, but it's not as if thanksgiving stopped existing so would the slaughtering of turkeys.

It doesn't really seem to me the holidays themselves are cruel. Not that I really think it's the turkey, or the Christmas trees, or the presents, or any of that stuff that really makes the holidays "joyous" to begin with.

This world is cruel therefore any kind of joy is cruel, because it feeds off cruelty :/. If you add on one side, another side has to loose. This world is pretty stupid. I hate this immense pain milliardes of animals have to go through every day, it´s just UNTHINKABLE, how can one be happy when all this is happening??? Therefore I also hate people who don´t care, don´t mind or are even arrogant about it. Please better don´t make any stupid comments on this because I don´t want to get angry anymore, arguing with ignorant hahaha people on this subject is distasteful.

I think there's a huge difference between cruelty to animals and consumption. But that's my opinion.
