I'm going to an Asian restaraunt, and I don't know what to expect cause I've never been to one before. Any advice or tips?

Ahh it looks iimpressive if you know your menu:

gyoza's make a nice starter and udon noodle dishes are the best!

miso soup is popular but like warm water slightly flavoured (yuk)

Ramen is good, big bowl of noodle soup

as for nerves, saki helps 8)

I used to cook these foods when I was a chef

I love the sushi rolls and the sashimi. This is definitely one of my favorite foods. The raw fish has a great test and texture against the teeth. Don't worry, it's very easy to get used to, and very safe (and healthy).

the only japanese food i've eaten and would happily eat again:
gyoza (dumplings i think lol)
california rolls (sushi)
shrimp

cucumber rolls are good too but not as yummy imo.

these foods are pretty easy to eat with chopsticks too (if that's a problem for you). just stab it with one chopstick and use the other chopstick to steady it til it gets in your mouth lol.

I've never been to a Japanese restaurant as there are none around here. We have Chinese and Indian resaturants/takeways everywhere though.

Do you sit on the floor in every Japanese restaurant o'r is that more of a tradition?

well around here you dont need to sit on the floor or take off your shoes in most restaurants, some you still do though, never went to an oversea japanese restaurant though, maybe they make you do that to make a unique experience.

Awww, thank you guys so much!! I really appreciate this a lot :) . I wish I was going with you guys instead of going with ppl like "normal" ppl who I went out with before, and laughed at me for not being to places before.

how did it go red?

I actually didn't go yet. My parents are overprotective, but they still gave me permission to go >_<. I postponed to this Friday or Saturday cause I was so nervous.

well, as someone who is "supposed" to be able to use chopsticks but can't (i'm chinese), don't feel bad!!! when i was a kid and had a lot more exposure to chinese/asian culture, i was more able to use chopsticks... but since that exposure has been non existant for years now, i've basically forgotten how to use chopsticks myself.

ironically, my older brother (he's half white and half chinese, but looks completely white) is a pro at using chopsticks, so you can imagine how we look... the white guy can use them and the chinese girl needs a fork! now *that's* embarassing!

anyway, like i said in my previous post, just eat the food that you can stab with the chopstick and use the other chopstick to steady it as it goes into your mouth :) that's what i do!

Lots of times, I just pick up sushi servings in the prepared foods section of the upscale grocery store nearby. It's pretty expensive, but sometimes I indulge myself. I like to eat it with chopsticks and lots of soy sauce.
