Going Doctors in UK...

I've decided that with Uni round the corner, it's about time I went to the Doctor to see if they can do anything for me, and was just wondering if anybody else has been and what I can expect to happen.
Will I be given tablets or sent to therapy or what? I don't know, please share your experiences with me.

I've also just turned 18, so will I have to pay for any therapy they send me on?

Thanks ::eek::

The first time around they probably won't give you anything. Has your doctor seen you before?

If you're 18 and given therapy I think you do have to pay, but I'm not certain on that.

Kinda glad they won't just medicate me up to the eyeballs, and no I've never spoken to my doctor about this before.

Bones, psychiatrists may just prescribe meds, but you can insist on something like CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy) or other forms of counselling, and find someone who'll be able to give you that.
Psychologists will just talk with you and don't prescribe meds.
There are different forms and approaches to therapy and counselling though, you can look around to find what would suit you best..

A friend of mine has been to a psychiatrist and he declared her 'too normal' for treatment lol. (She said talking to me was better than a psychiatrists though lol. So a friend you can talk to can be better too.. :) Or you can read books on the subject..)

Check how it is with insurance where you live. In my country, students have free insurance, if I remember it right. (At least we did when I was one.)
Sorry I'm not from UK, there may be waiting lists for some therapists if I remember it right from some other forums.. (It depends on what they specialize in and what you need/want too..)
