feeling belittled

Ever have that feeling from people you know or relatives?

Just rubbed me the wrong way, the one statement someone made to me and now I am pissed off. lol

It's not a big deal. We were discussing movies. I was asked if I had seen Red Dawn. I said, not sure, can't remember - then ultimately I said, no I don't think so.

Response I got back was "lol so sheltered"

I :)kickingmyself: ) said, what do you mean by that?

their reply: "the original is a classic of the cold war mentality"

I didn't respond.

You know guys, I may have watched it, maybe not. But why assume I have lived my whole life 'so sheltered' ... Truth is I was NOT sheltered. I have not always had SA, at least not this bad. It became more pronounced when my mother passed away, which by the way, today is the 9th anniversary of her death.

again, not a big deal, just that one statement pissed me off and I refuse to go to bed angry over something trivial.

deep breath...
oy! people! ugh.

Your relative doesn't even make sense! That comment is just stupid. Don't worry about it.

So sorry about your mom........

Urgh, people can be so judgmental. I've never seen Red Dawn either. I wouldn't worry about what that person said.

I also feel belittled today. Somebody called me a "Kid" instead of referring to me by my name. It feels like agism to me. But I try not to think too much about it. I tried to be nice to him. It feels like I'm kissing a** but I don't have much of a choice.

oh I get irritated when that happens, I've had that happen a couple times by 'senior citizens'....some older people (and forgive me if I offend) feel like just because they are older, they are entitled to be rude. I don't care, age has nothing to do with being a nice person - including to those who are younger.

Unfortunately, sounds like you were in a spot to where you couldn't do anything but just let it go in one ear and out the other - bummer!
Sorry that happened to you!!

Classic from 1984?, lol. I can't remember this movie at all and I was around then

Quite a few movies from the eighties and even the nineties may be considered modern classics. Dirty Dancing is just one example that comes rapidly to mind. Red Dawn? Not so much.

i watched the original Red Dawn quite a few times during the 1980's

i was fighting the Cold War at the time, serving as an Intelligence Analyst in the U.S. Marine Corps

my friends and i watched it in order to critique the film's portrayal of the agressor forces and their weaponry

i wouldn't expect that many people to have seen or remembered it

I haven't seen it either. But then there are loads of movies that are "classics" that I haven't seen. I make a joke of it to people. Of course, in my case I have been kinda sheltered. Anyway, that person is lame. I like your response of not responding :)

*hugs*
