Does anyone else have trouble with this, any time ive seen a doctor they always insist on taking my blood pressure, only thing is i get really on edge and panic when the strap pumps my arm and gets really tight, this is quite strange but ive fainted from dehydration from waiting for the thing to take a reading ....

i know 2 other people who also react this way ..

its the sensation that literally freaks me out ..

thing is they can never get a proper reading because of this ...

anyone else relate?

i'm fine with heights or extreme sports but not this

Hmm. I am actually the opposite. I'm weird because I actually kind of like the sensation that I feel to have the thing pump, or to give blood and stuff. What is it about it that you don't like? Like the tingling or feeling the blood flow, or just the whole thing in general? Dehydration from it isn't good though :/. Hmm. Maybe there is a fear or something that you connect it with. Ack sorry for all the questions, I'm just curious about it because I think it's interesting.

Its definately all in my head and i think you're right that its probably linked to something that happened in the past, a friend told me a hypnotist would be able to unwind the fear ..you know i'm fine with injections and most other medical jargon but its the strap that simulates the "pulsating" sensation and the pressure to not let the needle jump over its normal reading that i find unbearable, odd i know, but i've heard its common too ..

Blood Pressure

Yep. Happens to me too. I purchased a blood pressure kit on Woot. I use it each day, and one of the unexpected positives is that I have a lot less trouble when I go to the doctor's.

Call me strange but having my blood pressure taken often makes me feel nervous as I worry that the doctor will be able to tell I'm anxious because of my fast pulse rate... this in turn makes my pulse rate go higher which makes me even more nervous and I find this quite embarassing.

Once I was at work (I worked in a pharmacy) and a friend of mine was doing a talk on blood pressure in front of me and a small group of work collegues and part of the task was having our blood pressure taken. I got so nervous at the thought of my work collegues seeing how anxious I was that my pulse rate was the highest out of everyones and everyone was like 'Whoa!' It was so very embarassing.
