Favorite books turned into a movie?

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory most definitely!

I realize it's quite a bit different from the book, less Charlie-centric without delving into poverty as much, but Gene Wilder plus the wonderful songs have made it into one of my favorite movies. At any given moment I'm capable of randomly singing, "Gooses, Geeses!" :D

I can name couple of failures in my opinion.

I am legend
It

They're currently adapting It into a two-part motion picture. Cary what's-his-name who directed the first season of True Detective initially wrote the screenplay for it and was set to direct but backed out after some creative differences but it's still going through. I agree the mini-series was crap, but most of King's are. Except for Storm of the Century. Ironically a made-for-tv-only screenplay that was one of the few decent endings King ever wrote. The one good thing about the 1990 It was Tim Curry. He was great as Pennywise.
