do you find mindfulness meditation useful

#1
The first time I tried mindfulness meditation was back in march. it really helps me to calm down. I try to do two 10 minute sessions each day. this week I did two 25 minute sessions (Sunday and Thursday). I felt calm, happy like I used to feel 3 years back. sometimes when I'm outside and feel anxious, I might go into a bathroom and do a 5 minute session.

It's very useful. Unfortunately my discipline when it comes to meditation is not the best, but I notice that when I do it (even though it's hard to focus the first few minutes), I feel relatively more relaxed and in tune with what's around me. I use white noise to meditate.

I've tried mindfulness meditation a number of times over the last year but I can't quieten my mind at all.
It just races on, worrying about one thing after another. I'm so on edge these days.

Kind'of along the same lines, I recently discovered Stoicism (which also incorporates mindfulness, but much more as well) and have found it to be very useful. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy was largely influence by Stoicism.

Most people will have that problem. The trick is to acknowledge the thoughts instead of fighting them. The best description of this that I've found is by Russ Harris, where he says you should distance yourself from your thoughts, like looking out your window watching cars drive by.

If you still have problems after that, try some sort of aid, like white noise or nature sounds. There's millions of those on youtube.

yeah its hard- but its a practice that takes a long time to master.

I just try to feel things and not think- but journalling and automatic writing seems to help more when my mind wont stop.

It helps me alot. Anxiety is a really big thing in my life and meditation calms the anxiety, which in turn helps me to function more normaly in the real world.

Yes. Meditation has helped me. I don't have severe trauma like some people on here, but I have my story and meditation over the course of about a year and a half (on and off) has helped in addition to other practices. I started with just 10 minutes a day. For a couple weeks now I've been doing it for 30 minutes total. 10 minutes of thinking about things I'm grateful for, 10 minutes of selfless things that I have done, and 10 minutes of silent meditation open or closed eyes.
