daughters journey

Recently my 14 yr old daughter has been having anxiety attacks. She will get light headed and then start to hyperventilate. Once she gets calmed down she is fine. She had an attack every day for a week straight. We got her in to see a doctor and she was placed on 25mg of zoloft per day. Since then she has had only one major attack. She is an active athlete in the middle of her softball season. The doctor told her that if she has one of these during a game she needs to calm herself down with breathing techiniques and then go right back in the game and make a statement to her body that these are not going to control her. On Tuesday evening of this week she had that happen. She started to hyperventaliate and got it stopped and continued the game. She seems to be getting a little better each day and seems to have some shaking in her arms/hands from the meds.

Anyone else experiene something similar? Pretty scary but with the help of some good folks we seem to be moving past it./

It sounds as if she is coping already. The medication should help, and once she are able to control it with breathing techniques she will be able to teach her body how to react to the anxiety.

And she have supportive parents. I wish you were mine.

^Me too. Mine want me to suck it up and get going as they don't "believe" in anxiety. Glad to see parents who are actually supportive. I hope things get better for her soon.

Yes. I had a series of panic attack between 2002 and 2007, they lost their power when I realised they couldn't kill me. They were most intensely physical and frightening things I've ever experienced.
